Obituary for Alberta "Bert" Smith

Alberta “Bert” Smith was born on February 16, 1944 in Folkston, GA to the late, Leroy Cohill and Louise Mills. Alberta attended Charlton County School System and later moved to Rahway, New Jersey, where she worked for a short time at JFK Hospital. After working, she became a stay-at-home mom to raise her four daughters and son. Alberta was a loving spirit. She was generous to her children and family. Alberta was an avid reader, and her favorite sport was watching “Running With The Bulls.” She was a devoted mother and grandmother.
On Monday May 8th, 2023, at the age of 78, God lovingly called her home. Alberta is preceded in death by her husband, Willie Smith; daughters, Sandra “Sandy” and Denise Smith; parents, Louise “Lou” Mills and Leroy “Bubba” Cohill; brother, Otto “Man” Mills; Grandparents, Helen and Alphonso Hamilton; an aunt, Rosamae “Rose” Hamilton.
Alberta leaves to mourn: three children, Cara Cohill, Barbara Smith, and Willie Smith of Rahway, NJ; sisters, Helen “Guy” Reed of Folkston, GA, Elvera Baez, of Sayreville, NJ and Vanessa Mills of Miami, FL; an aunt, Barbara Jane Hamilton of Folkston, GA and a host of grand and great grandchildren, nieces, and nephews.
Cherished memories of Ms. Alberta Smith will be shared by her devoted family and friends.
A graveside service will be held on Thursday, May 18, 2023 @ 11:00 am., at Hilliard Community Cemetery, 552056 US-1 Hilliard, FL 32046.
