Obituary for Anita Childers (Flowers)

Dr. Anita Flowers-Childers, was born on November 07, 1939 to the late, Alberta Flowers in Jesup, Ga. She was educated in the Wayne County Training School. She continued her education at Clarke College where she obtained her Bachelor’s degree; Atlanta University, where she obtained her Master’s degree; and Ohio State University, where she obtained her Doctorate degree. Anita was passionate about Education and specialized in Reading and Literacy.

She was joined in holy matrimony on June 10, 1961 to her sweetheart, Sherman O. Childers, Sr.

Anita was a member of Mt. Mariah AME Church.

She spent her free time tutoring children and shopping. She was a member of Delta Sigma Theta Sorority, Incorporated.

Anita passed away on September 22, 2021, at her residence in Jesup, Ga., following a lengthy illness. She was preceded in death by her mother, Alberta Flowers; her only son, Sherman O. Childers Jr.; her sisters, Willie Lee Doomes, Mary Lee Grooms, Bernice Hines, and Elois Hardy; and one brother, Aaron Wilson, Sr.

Those left to cherish her memories: husband, Reverend Sherman O. Childers Sr., Jesup, Ga.; one brother, Booker T. Wilson, Sr., Atlanta, Ga.; three grandchildren, Megan Moore (David), Savannah, Ga, Sherman O. Childers III, Atlanta, Ga, and Tarrick Fuquay, Savannah, Ga; 3 great-grandchildren; and a host of nieces, nephews, cousins and friends.

A walk thru viewing will be held on Wednesday, September 29, 2021 at Royal Funeral Home Chapel from 12 Noon until 6:00 p.m.

Graveside services will be held on Thursday, September 30, 2021 at 11:00 a.m., at Jesup City Cemetery, North First Street, Jesup, Ga. 31545.
