Obituary for Atha Reed (Neeley)

Atha Bell Reed was granted her angel wings on October 9,
2019. She passed away into glory during her sleep at her
Miami home.

Atha Reed was born july 20,1936 in Waynesville, GA to
William and Gwendolyn Neeley. She spent her formative
years in southern Georgia and went on to continue her
education at Edward Waters College injackonsonville, FL.
While living in jackson ville she met and married her
husband, Clifton Reed, who predeceased her in 1997.
During their 35-year marriage, Atha worked for the State
of Florida and ran a successful restaurant business.
Atha was a woman of many talents and was known for her
skills in the kitchen. In addition to being an exceptional
cook, she loved to create one of a kind hats that she
showcased while attending church. Her other interest
included family, sewing and reading. She was a faithful
member of the 93rd Community Baptist Church where
she served as part of the Willing Workers Ministry.
Because she was known for her hospitality, many of her
nieces, nephews and cousins came to jive with her and her
husband over the years. Atha served as the neighborhood
mother and has fed many of her children's friends over the
years. She was known as Mother Reed to all and was the
last surviving original member on her street.

Atha leaves to cherish her memory two daughters, Blanche
Reed and Cherie Andrews (Charlie); four granddaughters,
Tia Reed, Cieundra Brown, Chanel Andrews and Celeste
Andrews; only grandson, Charleston Andrews; one great
grandson, Y'osbue; goddaughter, Veronica Tyson, sister-
in-law's: Shirley Small (Henry) and Lucille Massey; and a
host of nephews, nieces and extended family.
She was preceded in death by her son, Clifford (Jiffy)
Neeley.
