Obituary for Bessie Doomes (Patterson)

Bessie Doomes, 82, a native of Screven, Ga., and resident of Waycross, Ga., passed away on Thursday, April 2, 2020, following a lengthy illness. She was born on October 26, 1937, to the late, Earl and Maggie Vail-Patterson, in Blackshear, Ga. Bessie was the wife of the late, James Edward Doomes, and to this union, 6 children were born, Nadine, Lawanda, Maggie, Lori Ann, Terretha and Bobby.

Bessie was a member of Greater St. James Holiness Church in Screven, Ga., where she worked diligently on the kitchen committee. She also worked as an attendant with the dry cleaners, before becoming a homemaker.

Bessie was preceded in death by her parents, Earl and Maggie, husband, James Edward, daughter, Barbara E. Doomes, sisters, Louise Evans and Viola Patterson, brothers, Aaron, Patterson, Johnny Patterson, Sr., Alfonso Frazier and Donnell Frazier.

Those left to cherish her memories: her children, Nadine Johnson (Johnny), Blackshear, Ga., Lawanda Faye Booth, Screven, Ga., Maggie Frazier, Jesup, Ga., Lori Ann Doomes, Screven, Ga., Terretha Doomes (Charles Jones), Waycross, Ga. and Valerie Gibson (Dewayne), Blackshear, Ga.; sisters, Patsy Ann Dixon, Loretta Ryles and Margaret Jenkins (Larry), all of Screven, Ga.; a sister in-law, Barbaer Patterson, Atlanta, Ga.; her grandchildren, Chad Doomes, Angela Merday (Rod), Shontell Johnson, Johnny Johnson, Alfino Booth (Kizzi), Taj Booth, Tamika Booth, Joseph Doomes, Fleshia Doomes, Elonda Davis (CJ), Latisha Doomes, Patrick Doomes, Nikita Robinson (Brandon), PJ, Marcus, Kaiya,Shari, Demi and Nikki; as well as, a host of nieces, nephews, cousins and friends.
