Obituary for Betty Eldell (Stewart)

Betty Jean Stewart Eldell, 86, of Folkston, Ga. passed away on Sunday, February 25, 2024 surrounded by her loving family. She was born on January 16, 1938 to the late, Lewis and Ida Lee Hadden-Stewart, Sr. in Saint George, Ga. (Charlton County). Betty was educated in the Bethune School System in Charlton County. She was the wife of the late, William Eldell and was well known in her community as a sweet and kind-spirited person that everyone loved to be around. She believed in enjoying life to the fullest and did just that.

Her work history would include her tenure at Gold Kist Poultry Plant, Sea Pak Corporation and with the Air Traffic Control Center being her last job which she retired from after 20 plus years of service. Aside from working, Ms. Betty enjoyed spending time with her family and friends, cooking, gardening, decorating her home, shopping and of course dressing. To top off a great time, Ms. Betty enjoyed listening to her favorite music, The Blues.

Ms. Betty was preceded in death by both parents, Lewis and Ida Lee Hadden-Stewart, Sr.; her husband, William Eldell; her children, Corbett Eldell and Leonard Melton; her sister, Julia Stewart; her brothers, Clarence and Willie Stewart and her granddaughter, Nicoya "CoCo" Jackson.

Those left to cherish her memories: her daughters, Mollie Houston, St. Marys, Ga., Sandra McDonald, Folkston, Ga. and Julia (Alphonso) Martin, Jacksonville, Fl.; her son, Ronald Eldell, Folkston, Ga.; her sisters, Mary (Gene) Tanner, Woodbine, Ga., Catherine Stewart and Joanne Hannans, both of Folkston, Ga. and Brenda Stewart of Pontiac, Michigan; her brothers, Lewis (Elizabeth) Stewart, Jr. and Perry Stewart, both of Jacksonville, Fl., and Bobby (Nancy) Stewart of Fayetteville, NC; her sisters in-law, Betty Stewart, Montgomery, Alabama and Debra Stewart of Folkston, Ga., a host of grandchildren, great grandchildren, great-great grandchildren; her close friends, Rosa Epps, Catherine Bouie and Shirley Albertie Newby; a special cousin, Gloria Hatwood of New York, NY, as well as numerous nieces, nephews, cousins and friends that will miss her immensely.

A special thank you to Life Care and Community Hospice of Hillard, Fl. for their tireless efforts in caring for Ms. Betty.

*There will NOT be a wake/visitation. Remains will lie in state one hour prior to services.

Funeral services will be held on Saturday, March 02, 2024 @11:00 a.m. at Mt. Carmel Baptist Church, 18 Mt. Carmel Street, Folkston, Ga. 31537. Interment in Mt. Carmel Cemetery, Folkston, Ga.
