Obituary for Charles "Charlie Red" Keaton

This is the journey of Charles (Charlie, Charlie Red) Keaton. Charles was a wonderful man that was deeply loved, is missed, and will always be cherished. Our “Papa,” as he liked to be called by his grandchildren, “Charlie/Charles,” as he was called by his daughters and “T-Horse by his many friends. Charles was an amazing son, dad, brother, grandad and friend. Above all he was a peaceful, faithful God loving man who loved to laugh.

Charles story began on November 20th, the oldest child of the late, Bettye J. Perkins (Parker) and the proud son of two very special dads. Our dad was blessed to have two dads in his life, the late Charles ‘Bo’ Keaton and the late Leonard “Bilbo” Sims, Sr. He was never shy about his love for both dads and his siblings. Charles’ siblings were his tribe. He had a different relationship with each. It was his love and relationships with his sisters and brothers that made him whole.

Charles was born in Jesup Ga., where he attended Wayne Co. High school. He lived in New York, Michigan, Jesup and Waycross, but it was Jesup, that he would call home. Our dad worked in many different fields (Department of Transportation, Wells Roofing, the Tank Plant, Walmart Distribution Center and others. Charles had many talents, but it was his organic God given gift as a trained Master Upholsterer that he was most proud of. His work was impeccable and he was sought out for his craftmanship.

Charles favorite pass time was watching his favorite tv shows, like the Young and the Restless, golf, and his favorite football team of all time, the Pittsburg Steelers. Give him a remote control, a bowl of Butter Pecan ice cream, hot coffee with French Vanilla creamer, to slurp, fried gizzards and his cell phone and he was a happy man. Charles would often be seen in riding around Jesup and in Waycross visiting friends and family checking on them and delivering the latest news. Charles’ grand kids were his heart and joy. There’s no denying that, his grand kids and girls were the people that he loved to spend time with the most. Time spent with Grandpa was very special for his grandkids.

Charlie our beloved, husband and dad, he was one of a kind. God’s decision to appoint him as our dad made him the perfect dad for us.

Charles began strengthening his relationship with God as a member of Pentecostal Miracle Deliverance Church. While living in Waycross, Ga. Charles attended Emanual’s International Cathedral of the Holy Spirit, where he served as a faithful member of the deacon board and the church treasurer.

Those left to cherish his memories: his wife of two years, Durasse’ Arrington-Keaton, Waycross, Ga.; his daughters, C. Michelle Bryan (Craig) of Ijamsville MD; Racquell Scott (Ray) of Patterson, Ga., Bridget Keaton, Jacksonville, Fla., Fallon Bailey (Joseph), Monrovia MD, and the late, Carla Riley. Four brothers, Richard Harris, Brunswick, Ga., Leonard Sims, Jr. ,Macon, Ga., Terry Sims, Daytona, Fla. and the late, Robert F. “Billy” Sims; three sisters, Ronicea Keaton, Jesup, Ga., the late, Diane Sims Aina and his sister/aunt, Loretta Lambert; his step children, Ray Jr., Nicole and Marquese Arrington, all of Baltimore, MD; two sister in-law, Deborah Byrd and Ollie Pear ; brothers in-laws, Alonzo (Teisha) Solomon, Reagan Brown, Samuel Taylor and Curtis Taylor, all of Maryland; and a host of aunt, uncles, nieces, nephews, cousins, and friends who will miss him dearly.
