Obituary for Charles Mims

Charles Williams Mims, 67, of Jesup, GA passed away on Friday, March 15, 2024 at his residence. He was preceded in death by both parents and two sisters, Eloise Wade and Loretta King.

Charles was born March 8, 1957 to the late Tom Lee Mims and Fannie King Mims in Macon, GA. In his early childhood his family moved to Lodi, New Jersey where Charles would spend the rest of his childhood until he joined the military. Charles was a veteran, having served in the U.S. Army and U.S. Navy. In 1978 he married Gloria Wilson Mims and they later conceived Stephen Austin Mims, his only child. Upon receiving an honorable discharge from military service, he became a carpenter by trade.

Charles was a quiet and gentle person. However, those close to him enjoyed his quick wit and humor and his love for laughter and candor. He was an honest and generous person having helped a multitude of people in his lifetime. He gave freely of whatever he had. He was both gentle and protective. Charles was book smart and street savvy. He traveled the globe and picked up many cultural and spiritual practices from the people he met and the experiences he had. He studied architecture at the renounced Savannah College of Artist and Design (SCAD). He was well read and multifaceted. Charles was an artist leaving many pieces for his family to treasure. He was a loving son, brother, father, and uncle. Those close to him will miss every cherishing moment with him and are grateful for the chance to have experienced him in this lifetime

Those left to hold his memory, his only son, Stephen Austin Mims, Shelby, NC; a sister, Sandra Mims Harris, Sanford, FL; a sister, Marilyn Mims, Garfield, GA; a brother, Tommie Mims, Sr., Lodi, NJ; ex-wife, Gloria Wilson Mims; his aunts, Elizabeth Roberts, Albany, GA and Kimberly Glover, Garfield, NJ; lifelong friends, Nicki Ferito and Amy Scott of Gastonia, NC, as well as a host of nieces, nephews, cousins and friends that he influenced and who will miss him immensely.

A memorial service with military honors will be held on Saturday, March 23, 2024 at Royal Funeral Home Chapel, 247 W. Pine Street, Jesup, Ga. 31545 @ 4:00 pm
