Obituary for Daniel "Shorty" Addison

Daniel Jerome Addison, the son and baby child of Curtis, Sr., and Rachel Summers Addison, was born on Thursday, February 17, 1955, in St. George (Dorchester County), South Carolina. He was educated in the public schools of Dorchester County and graduated from Williams Memorial High School, the Class of 1973.

While in high school, he pursued welding as a technical trade. Mr. Baker, his welding instructor, declares to this day that he was the best welding student that he instructed in his entire teaching career. In addition to welding, he acquired additional technical skills and certification as a Heavy Equipment Operator and a Master Truck Driver. His latest professional track was in trucking as an owner/operator and as a sub-contractor/operator with Eric Knowles Trucking and Milton Savage Trucking. Enthusiastic about the profession and a superbly skilled driver, he became their Master Operator, mentoring and training numerous inexperienced drivers as they entered the profession.

While working as a Heavy Equipment Operator in Kings Bay, Georgia, he met a beautiful young girl from Folkston, Georgia. Ms. Kista Garard. After wooing her with his skills as a heavy equipment operator by inviting her on board as he operated his machines, he charmed her into accepting his hand in marriage in 1984. In the 11th year of their 39-year union, they were blessed in 1995 with a little baby girl, Alexis Laprea Addison Foley (Lucas Tyrell) of Elizabethtown, Kentucky. He also has a son, SSG Dyquan Tyree Gibson of Joint Base Elmendorf-Richardson, Anchorage, Alaska. He has three (3) precious grandkids, Zoya Janae Foley, Beyah Rogers, and Jenesis Gibson.

Daniel, affectionately called “Shorty” by his wife and friends, leaves in this earthly realm to cherish his memory, -- in addition to his wife of 39 years, and his children and grandchildren – his sole surviving sibling of the union of Curtis and Rachel, Shirley Addison Prince (Atlee) of Savannah; a brother, Curtis Addison, Jr. (Jeanie) of St. George, South Carolina; six (6) brothers-in-law, Central (Betty) Garard, Dale (Gwendolyn) Garard, Reginald (Rose) Garard, Walter (Jasmine) Garard, all of Folkston, Georgia; and Curtis Garard and Eugene Frazier of Jacksonville, Florida; a sister-in-law, Brenda (Gary Garard-deceased); a special niece, Hope C.
