Obituary for Denmond "Dee" Donaldson

Denmond “Dee” Denry Donaldson was born on December 16,1960 in Kingston, Jamaica, West Indies. His parents, the late Nathaniel James Donaldson and Vioris May Donaldson migrated to England when he was a toddler. He and his sister, Sonia, were left in the loving care of their grandmother, Kathleen Plunkett. In her wisdom, she had to duly check the mischievous pair for their misadventures.

Denmond moved to Luton, Bedfordshire, England in 1967 to reunite with his parents. He attended Maidenhall Primary School and Challney High School for Boys where he was joyous, and fun loving. It was there where he displayed his
early artistic talent.

He and his sister then moved to live with their dear Aunt Enid, grandmother Kathleen Plunkett, and baby cousin Christine Hamilton in Scarborough, Canada before reuniting with their mother in Brooklyn, NY.

Denmond attended JHS 275 in Brooklyn, and then enrolled in The High School of Art & Design in Manhattan, New York where his interest in architecture and design was developed.

Upon graduation from high school in 1978, Denmond enlisted in the United States Marine Corps and re-enlisted in 1981. He served as a Sergeant in the 1st Tank Battalion, 1st Marine Division at Camp Pendleton, California. He was
decorated with a Rifle Marksmanship Badge, Sea Service Deployment Ribbon and, received Good Conduct Medals. He was a dynamic, forceful, and respected leader who instilled confidence and loyalty in Marines under his charge.
Denmond was honorably discharged December 1985.

Denmond majored in Computer Operations Administration, and, in 2004 received a Bachelor of Science degree in Information Technology from the University of Phoenix. He worked at Cherry Textron Aerospace as the primary
Information Technology Specialist for 16 years. He was also an entrepreneur who started his own businesses in California and Maryland. He developed patents for both computer and plumbing tools.

His passion was physical activity. He enjoyed the “California lifestyle”- jogging, bicycling, motorcycling, surfing, swimming, skiing, bowling, participating in triathlons, biathlons, and he even went sky diving with his dare devil sister.

He also enjoyed spending time with his friends in California, driving, traveling, movies, military documentaries, listening and singing to music, with his amazing singing voice. Denmond was a kind, generous, dependable son, brother and friend. He had a special love for children and animals, and literally, would not hurt a fly.

Denmond displayed his artistic eye, not only designing projects for his homes, but also building those projects after he had done much research. He was very detail-oriented and built an impressive Japanese garden after his travel to Japan and China. Additionally, he built a beautiful backyard pathway, successfully renovated homes, installed hardwood flooring and built soundproof systems for his homes.

Sadly, Denmond’s health started to decline in 2003. He was no longer able to work due to his disability. Nonetheless, he stoically fought his foe, sickness, to retain his independence as any Marine would, when fighting an enemy.

He relocated to Jesup, Georgia in 2008 where his always devoted and strong mother lived. In Jesup, he again strove for independence. He maintained an apartment and drove his beloved truck until he could no longer do so. Denmond studied the Bible and attended church with his mother and church members when his health allowed. He subsequently lived at Altamaha Healthcare Center, Hazlehurst Court Care & Rehabilitation Center and Harborview Health Systems.

After an extended illness, Denmond departed this earth at Memorial Health University Medical Center in Savannah, GA on February 15, 2022.

Left to cherish precious, loving memories of Denmond are his sister, Sonia Linda Donaldson of Glenham, NY; his Aunt Enid Plunkett of Canada; several uncles, aunts, cousins, and friends in England, Jamaica, Canada and the USA. While he is
sorely missed, we look forward to seeing him when Jesus comes to claim His own.
