Dora Lee Spearmon “Ma Dora” was born on June 19, 1940 to the late, Horace Spearmon and Alma Thomas-Spearmon in Lakeland, Ga. Dora was educated in Bradenton, Fl. She was a member of Emory Chapel United Methodist Church where she was a member of the choir. Dora worked several years at Wayne County Concerted Services as a dietician.
Dora was really a joy to be around. She was a great mother, grandmother and friend that enjoyed spending time with her family and friends thrifting, gardening and collecting chicken figurines. She was always a happy person with a pleasing personality.
Dora passed away on September 20, 2023 at Wayne Memorial Hospital following a brief illness. She was preceded in death by both parents, Alma and Horace Spearmon; her sisters, Pearl Turner, Peggy Randall and Margaret Cherry and her brothers, Thomas and Earl Spearmon.
She leaves to cherish her memory: one son, James White, Monticello, Fl.; a daughter, Gwynette Weatherspoon Clemons, Jesup, Ga.; a grandson, Jeremy White; two granddaughters, Chanasha and Chamiya Owens, Jesup, Ga.; (12) great grandsons; her brothers, Richard Spearmon, Alma, Ga. and Billy (Mary) Spearmon, Baxley, Ga.; a sister, Betty Newman, Richmond, Va.; a godson, Jeffery Davis, Atlanta, Ga.; sisters in law Margaret Ann Spearmon and Addie Spearmon, Statesboro, Ga.; as well as many close cousins and friends.
There will NOT be a wake/visitation. Remains will lie in state one hour prior to services at the church on Friday.
Funeral services will be held on Friday, September 29, 2023 @ 11:00 am at Emory Chapel United Methodist Church, 311 N. Hickory Street, Jesup, Ga. 31546
Interment will be in Old Field Cemetery, Baxley, Ga.
