Obituary for Doris Fuller (Smith)

Mrs. Doris M. Fuller, 90, of Odum, Ga, passed away Sunday, January 22, 2023, after enduring a difficult battle with Alzheimer’s Disease. She was surrounded by loved ones at the home of her grandson (Leon and Candace), who cared for her faithfully with unconditional love until she slept away early Sunday morning.

Mrs. Doris was a Christmas baby, born December 25, 1932, to the late, Oscar and Beulah Smith of Fitzgerald, Ga. She received her education in the area and it’s also where she met and later married the love of her life James M Fuller (Monroe). The Fullers moved to Wayne County, Ga in the early 1960s and built their lives in the area raising their 8 children, living mostly in Odum. The Fullers were married for over 45 years until her husband’s death in 1998.

Mrs. Doris was a devoted wife, mother, and grandmother who loved spending time with her family. Whether you were child, grandchild, or great grandchild, when you greeted her, the response was always “Hey baby.” The Fuller home was always filled with children, including nieces, nephews, and church children. Mrs. Doris provided a loving home with three meals a day, every day! She was an exceptional homemaker.

Mrs. Doris accepted Jesus Christ as her Lord and Savior at an early age and served faithfully for over 60 years as a member of Good Hope Church of God in Unity in Odum, Ga. She loved praising and worshipping God and let nothing, or no one hold her back as she glorified God. Mrs. Doris took pride in her praise garments as she was never without a beautiful hat to compliment her classic wardrobe. Even up until her very last days, she continued to give God Praise. The petite woman with the praise of a giant will truly be missed.

Preceded in death are both parents, (Oscar and Beulah Smith), her husband, James Fuller ‘Monroe’, one daughter, Emma Marie Fuller, two brothers, Theodore Smith, Charles and Carolyn Smith, and one granddaughter, Paris Anderson.

Those left to cherish her memories are her children: Frances (Tyrone) Maxwell of Mt. Vernon, Ga; James (Denise) Fuller of Waverly, Ga; Norris (Precilla) Fuller of Odum, Ga; Calvin Fuller of Odum, Ga; Evanne (Craig) Anderson of Walthourville, Ga., Mary (Curtis) Heard of Pooler, Ga; Kathy Fuller-West of Conyers, Ga; stepson, Lewis Thomas of Jacksonville, Fla. her grandchildren: Felicia (David) Smith-Bentley, Taquilla (Remone) Thornton, Cynthia (Bernard) Jordan, Tenisa Maxwell, Franklin (Nicole) Maxwell, Maurice Maxwell; Shaun Fuller, Sharlene Fuller, Jennifer (Antwan) Hudson, Leon (Candace) Anderson, Matthew Fuller; Norris B Fuller, Lavetrice Fuller; Shavonta’(Joe) Anderson, Angelis Doris (John) Williams, Aaron Wardlow; Antoine (Mary) Johnson, Brittney Heard, Edward Heard; Bryanna (Quarry) Fuller, Brandon (Alex) Fuller, Jonathan West, Joshua West; Sheena Thomas and Erica Thomas.
