Edith Joyce Wilson-Gantt, 89, of Folkston, Ga. passed away on August 25, 2021 at Folkston Park LTC following a lengthy illness. She was born on July 22, 1932 to the late, William Wilson and Lorene Bailey in Jacksonville, Fl. She was reared by Lorene and Charlie Bailey, Sr., and attended the public school system of Charlton County, Ga. She was a member of Mt. Carmel Baptist Church where she served on the Usher Board for many years. Edith was also a member of the Order of the Eastern Stars. She was employed with Thikol Chemical and Union Carbide and retired after 20 plus years of service. Edith loved cooking, baking, crocheting and crossword puzzles.

Edith was preceded in death by her parents, William Wilson, Lorene and Charlie Bailey, Sr.; her husband, Joseph Gantt; five children, William Wilson, Sr., Brenda Mitchell-Edwards, Suzette Maxwell, Keith Mitchell, Sr. and Terrance Mitchell; her siblings, Charlie Bailey, Jr. and Ernie “Mrs. Bob” Moody and a granddaughter, Melissa Mitchell.

She leaves to cherish her memories: her sons, Rev. Doyle (Claudette), Glen, Curtis, Angelo, Kelvin, Bryan and Carlton Mitchell; her siblings, Terry, Sr. (Lurease), Charlene and Loretta Bailey and Howard Elmore, Sr.; her son in-law, Tommy Maxwell, Jr.; daughter in-law, Nanny Mitchell; 50 grandchildren; 79 great grandchildren, 7 great great grandchildren, special friends, Mary Lou Payne and Mattie Alberta; and a host of nieces, nephews, cousins and friends who will certainly miss her.

There will not be a wake/visitation. A viewing will be held one hour prior to services at the cemetery.

Graveside services will be held on Saturday, September 04, 2021 @ 10:00 a.m. at Mt. Carmel Cemetery, Mt. Carmel Cemetery Rd., Folkston, Ga. 31537

Everyone planning to attend services are asked to wear your mask and be mindful of the social distancing guidelines set by the local health officials and the CDC.
