Obituary for Edith Tarber (Ward)

Edith Ward Tarber was born on July 30, 1944, in Mershon, Ga. to the late, General Taylor Ward, Sr. and Veola Brown Ward. Edith was educated in the Pierce County School System and graduated from Lee Street High School in the Class of 1961. Edith gave her life to the Lord at an early age, first becoming a member of Union Chapel Baptist Church in Mershon, Ga., as an adult she later joined First A. B. Church in Screven, Ga. where she served as the leader of the Youth Department, then she became a member of Bennett Union Missionary Baptist Church in Jesup, Ga. and finally, both she and her husband joined Evergreen Church in Bristol, Ga. where she remained until her demise. As a member of Evergreen Church in Bristol, Ga. under the leadership of Pastor Nathaniel Anderson, she served on the Usher Board and started the Birthday Ministry for the church congregation. Her employment history included working at the Medical Transport Service (MTS), Bonnie Manufacturing in Screven, Ga. and she was employed with Rest A While Nursing Home as a Certified Nursing Assistant, as well as some private sitting. Her hobbies included that of baking her world-famous sweet potato pies that everyone loved, spending time with her family and she was an avid reader as well.

Edith passed away on Sunday, October 09, 2022, surrounded by her loving family. She was preceded in death by both parents, General Taylor Ward, Sr. and Veola Brown Ward, her husband, Solomon Thomas Tarber, Jr., her siblings, General Taylor Ward, Jr., Earlis Ward, Sr., Willie Ester Ward and Jerry Ward.

Those left to cherish her memory: her loving children, Timothy (Brenda) Tarber, Jesup, Ga., Teressa (Tommy) Jones, Jesup, Ga.; Solomon (Cheryl) Tarber III, Screven, Ga.; two sisters, Effie (David) James, Jacksonville, Fl. and Julia Clinton, Jesup, Ga.; one aunt, Nell "Peaches" Zilka, Tampa, Fl.; four sisters in-law, Alice Ward, West Palm Beach, Fl., Hilda Gaffney, Athens, Ga., Esteen Tarber, Arizona and Rose Tarber, Waycross, Ga.; a brother in-law, William Clinton, West Palm Beach, Fl.; nine grandchildren, Candi, Tarini, Kierra, Michael, Tommy, Jacqueline, Shauntavious, Gabriel, Timothy Deā€™Marcus, Shauntavious; fifteen great grandchildren; one great great grandchild; special god daughter, Kimberly Fussell; and a host of special nieces, nephews, cousins and friends that will miss her sorely.

A wake will be held on Friday, October 21, 2022, from 4-6 p.m. at Evergreen Church, 4100 Hwy 32, Bristol, Ga. 31518.

Funeral services will be held on Saturday, October 22, 2022 @ 11:00 a.m. at Evergreen Church. Interment will be in Screven Cemetery, Screven, Ga.
