Obituary for Ellis "Chapo" Jernigan
Ellis, aka “Chapo” Jordan Michael Jernigan departed this life on Tuesday, May 31, 2022 at the age of 30. He was born on January 3, 1992 to Tammy Austin-Jernigan and Ellis Thomas Jernigan in Fernandina, Fla. Ellis attended the Charlton County public school system and obtained his GED before leaving this life. He had a great personality and he never met a stranger. Ellis’ gift to this life was laugher! His smile was infectious and there was always a joke or a funny story on tap! Ellis encouraged everyone to enjoy life to the fullest! That included acknowledging God’s power to sustain us as only He can!
Ellis was preceded in death by his grandparents, Jessie and Inez Austin, Johnny Jernigan Sr. and Mary Rhym.
Ellis leaves to cherish his memories: his wife, Angelica Mason-Jernigan and son, Prince Dupont; his parents, Tammy Austin-Jernigan and Ellis Thomas Jernigan; a sister, Tamecia L. Jernigan; his aunts and uncles, Sylvester Rudolph (Gloria), Audrey Austin, Janice Blair, Shelia Gibbs (Harry), Sarah Jernigan, Johnny, Joe, Richard, Solomon, Miles and General and their spouses; and a host of aunts, cousins and other relatives who cherish joyful memories.
Ellis also shared a lifelong friendship and unbreakable bond with many in the community, among those were Roland Humphries, Raven, Louie, Tucker Hamlette, Christy James and Marquis Lambert. Special love and appreciation goes out to Harry Gibbs, Jr, Tevon and Tamelia Blair, they grew up and were raised like siblings. Among Ellis’ greatest joys was his nephew, Quadir Jordan, who will carry on his uncle’s name and legacy.
The will not be a wake. Remains will lie in state for viewing 1 hour prior to graveside services at Mt. Carmel cemetery .
Graveside services will be held on Saturday, June 11, 2022 at 11:00 a.m., at Mt. Carmel Memorial Cemetery., Mt. Carmel Rd., Folkston, Ga.
Everyone planning to attend are asked to wear your masks and keep a safe social distance.
