Obituary for Ernest Carr

Ernest L. Carr was born on December 09, 1950 to the late, Elijah and Sarah Carr in Georgetown, South Carolina. He was raised in Odum, Ga. and attended Wayne County Training School, where he graduated with an athletic scholarship to Tennessee State University. He was then drafted into the United States Army and served our country for two years, including serving in Germany.

Once he returned to Wayne County, Ga., he was employed as the first African American Emergency Medical Technician in the County. He was fondly known in his community as the "ambulance man". Later, Ernest was able to combine his love of sports into his career as an employee and driver for Sports Mania, where he staged, sold and delivered sports merchandise. He had the opportunity to attend countless major sporting events through the years and throughout the country. It was during this time he became affectionately known as "Mr. Worldwide".

Ernest passed away on Friday, October 29, 2021 at Charleston VA Medical Center. He was preceded in death by his parents, Elijah and Sarah Carr; his siblings, Roger Carr, Samuel Carr, Elijah Smiley, Shirley Carr and Myrtle Ingram.

He leaves to cherish his memory: 3 daughters, Yolanda Carr, Tomeko (Jack) Wade, Tequila Carr; 5 granddaughters, Ambriah (Jo) Duffie, Brianna (Vincent) Copeland, Autianna Jackson, Carolyn Rhodes, Chloe Gaines; 1 great granddaughter, Justice Cosby and 1 great grandson, Jayden King Pittman; 3 sisters, Sara (Austin) Savage, Daisey Carr, Lottie Strachan; 3 brothers, Bernard (Sheila) Carr, Johnny (Felecia) Carr, Gregory Carr. Ernest will be deeply missed.

A walk they viewing will be held on Friday, November 05, 2021 at Royal Funeral Home Chapel from 11am until-3 pm.

A graveside service will be held on Saturday, November 06, 2021 at 10:00 am at Odum City Cemetery 577 Tillman Street, Odum, Ga. 31555.
