Obituary for Gilbert "Coach Thompson" Thompson

Gilbert Thompson,"AKA" Coach Thompson, 66, of Ludowici, Ga., passed away on Saturday, December 7, 2019, at his residence. He was born on April 19, 1953, to the late, Henry Williams and Ella Mae Thompson in Millen, Ga. Coach Thompson, as he was affectionately known among his students, co-workers, family, and friends, was educated in the public school system of Long County, and graduated in the Class of 1971. He furthered his education at Middle Tennessee State University in Murfreesboro, Tn., where he earned his Bachelor Degree in Education. Gilbert was an educator and a basketball coach in the long county school system, as well as, a truck driver with C.R. England Trucking.

Gilbert was preceded in death by both parents, Henry Williams and Ella Mae Thompson, a sister, Lee Dora Thompson, and a brother, Clarence Thompson.

Those left to cherish his memories: three daughters, Kari Bolettieri, Ft. Bragg, Nc., Larranda Schofield, Columbus, Ga., and Sha Langford (LaMichael), Atlanta, Ga.; two sisters, Alice Mae Hobson (Kenneth) and Bernice Johnson, both of Augusta, Ga.; five brothers, Johnny Thompson (Cheryl), Brunswick, Ga., Wayne Thompson, Perry, Ga., Willie Frank Thompson, Marvin Thompson and Albert Thompson, all of Ludowici, Ga.; one aunt, Janice Thompson-Reddick, Statesboro, Ga.; (5) grandchildren; and a host of nieces, nephews, other relatives and friends that will miss him sorely.
