Obituary for Givens Bryant Jr.

Deacon Givens Bryant, Jr. was born on January 26, 1946 to the late, Mr. and Mrs. Louvenia and Givens Bryant, Sr. in Jesup, Georgia. He was one of four children. Givens received his formal education through the public school system, graduating from Wayne County Trading School.

Givens accepted Christ as his Savior at an early age and was baptized at First African Baptist Church. Through his love for Christ, mission to serve, and determination to be a faithful servant, he dutifully served at Piney Grove Holiness Church of God in Unity for numerous years, under the leadership of Bishop Leroy Jackson Jr. He humbly served as a head deacon, executive board member, and musician that remained steadfast and dedicated to his duties, which are to be commended.

Givens worked in many occupations including laborer for Jesup Milling Company, insurance salesman, security guard, and employment at Walmart, where he later retired after thirteen stellar years of service. He led with unwavering strength and love throughout his many works. In his leisure, Givens enjoyed singing, playing his guitar, entertaining people with his jokes and vibrant personality, and lending a helping hand to anyone in need. Most importantly, Givens thoroughly enjoyed creating fruitful memories with the love of his life, Mamie, for 55 plus years. He cherished family and being of service to the church and his community.

Givens passed away on Thursday, June 30, 2022 at Memorial Hospital in Savannah, Ga. He is preceded in death by his parents, Mr. and Mrs. Louvenia and Givens Bryant, Sr. and sister, Mrs. Virginia Vail.

“Pop”, also affectionately known as Givens, will forever live on in the hearts of his loving wife, Mrs. Mamie Bryant; his children, Mrs. Marilyn (Tyrone) McCray, Mrs. Winnie (Charles) Bryant, Mr. Givens (Eureka) Bryant III, and Mrs. Geannine Bryant (LaBronze) Wilkins; his grandchildren, Louis Bryant, Bobby (Gia) Jones, Jr., Arena Bryant, Shandashia Bryant, Quintina Jones, Brittany Jones, Louvenia Pender, Shaquille Bryant, Nila Bryant, Jalen Bryant, Jeremiah Wilkins, Ja’Briel Wilkins and Givonni Bryant; his great-grandchildren, Deon Waters, Ayden Jones and Chozynn Bryant; his siblings, Mrs. Gladys (Dagger) Thomas and Mr. Robert (Dyane) Bryant; along with a host of nieces, nephews, special cousins, friends and other relatives who will miss him dearly.


A viewing will be held on Thursday, July 07, 2022 at Royal Funeral Home, 247 W. Pine Street, Jesup, Ga. 31545 from 5-7p.m.

Funeral services will be held on Friday, July 8, 2022 at New Bethel Life Changing Ministries, 521 Brown Street, Screven, Ga. 31560 @ 11am. Interment immediately following in Screven Cemetery.

Everyone planning to attend services are asked to please wear your masks as Covid-19 is on the rise again, and be mindful of the social distancing guidelines that has already been set by the CDC.
