Obituary for Gladys Woodson (Greene)

Gladys Greene Woodson, the daughter and the eldest of (10) was born on January 12, 1946, to the late, Jim and Albertha Singleton Greene, in Sumter, South Carolina. She departed this life on Thursday, March 30, 2023, surrounded by her loving family.

Gladys received her primary education and graduated from the public schools of Sumter County, SC in May 1964. Once she received her high school diploma she ventured to Baltimore, Maryland where she moved with her favorite aunt, the late Evelena McFadden. She worked various jobs including the ice cream shop where she met her husband, Lindsay Woodson.

She married her loving and devoted husband, Lindsay Woodson, on December 25, 1965, and out of their union they had two beautiful daughters.

Gladys was employed for 45 years at Hartke Hanks Direct Marketing where she dedicated her lifelong career as the hand belt supervisor. She was loved by all her peers, and she loved them! She loved them so much after a few years of retirement, she returned to help out.

Gladys was a faithful steward of God, and she dedicated her Christian services to her beloved church family of St. Luke United Methodist Church of Sykesville, Maryland for 37 years. She served as the church secretary and the Chair of the Communion Stewards. Her church family knew she was the one to always call on to help out whenever needed.

Gladys was a firm believer in God, family and friends and was very sure of her daily Christian walk of faith. She enjoyed spending time with her family, gardening and she was an amazing cook! She was a loving individual that never met a stranger and was always willing to take time to listen and provide positive counsel. Once retired, she talked on the phone so much counseling and listening to people, we joked she should get a customer service job from home. She touched everyone she knew! The love she displayed for everyone was genuine and heartfelt! She went above and beyond to help others. She would open her home for so many friends and family to live, shower, eat or even give her last dime. She never hesitated to do the Lord’s work!

Gladys was proceeded in death by her parents, Jim and Albertha Green and her brother, Robert Greene.

Gladys leaves to mourn, and cherish her memory: her husband of 58 years, Lindsay Woodson, Baltimore, MD; her two daughters, Louraine (Jonathan) Stephens, St. Marys, GA and Charlene (Darryl) Kemp, Randallstown, MD; her grandchildren, Ashley, Darryl, Kimberly, Michael and Jonathan Michael; her grant grandchildren Bryonna, Jaylen, Jeremiah, Sanaya, Danielle, Christian, Cameron, Chloe, Navara and Kavara; her brothers, Carisle Greene, Jimmy Greene, Earl (Eloise) Greene, Lawrence Greene and John Edward (Carolyn) Greene, all of Sumter, SC; her sisters, Betty (Albertus) Tomlin, Roberta Greene and Linda Greene all of Sumter, SC; her sisters in law, Frances Littleford and Florence (Walter) Washington of Richmond Virginia, Virginia Ruth Louise Carroll, of Baltimore, MD; her brother in law Robert Woodson, of Richmond; as well as a host of nieces, nephews, cousins and other relatives and sorrowing friends who will miss her dearly.
