Obituary for Gwendolyn "Gwen" Parker (Shaw)
On December 18, 2023, God in His infinite wisdom whispered “Come unto me and rest” Gwendolyn took flight to rest in His loving arms.
Gwendolyn Olivia Shaw-Parker affectionately known as “Gwen” was born on June 19, 1948, to Rudolph and Catherine Shaw. Gwen joined Emory Chapel United Methodist Church at an early age. She was educated at Wayne County Training School and was a graduate of the class of 1965. Gwen retired from K-Mart after working for 40 years. She enjoyed being surrounded by family. Gwen’s hobbies included crocheting, doing puzzles and playing games on her phone.
Gwen leaves to cherish her memories her daughter, Yasmin Parker; brothers, Cornell (Fannie) Shaw and Reginald Shaw; sister, Juanita Shaw; aunt, Vera Shaw-Wheeler; uncles, Don (Eliza) Darden, Richard Darden and Eugene (Rachel) Darden; nieces and nephews, Ayesha Shaw, Denise Wright, Cornelius Shaw, Derek Shaw, Teddy Coney and Rafael Shaw; great nieces and nephews, Destini Grantham, Demeka Shaw, Dasani Shaw, Tyneal Shaw, Trinity Shaw, Denajah Shaw, Tamerick Johnson, Demarkion Johnson, Cameron Trammell, Zyquze Shaw, Rafael Shaw Jr., Cornelius Shaw, Jr., and Adam Shaw; great-great niece and nephews whom she adored, Aybree Lady”, Kadence “Ace” and Jordan “Cash”; godchildren, Porsha Turner, Sonya Brown, Sonya Baker-Wilson and Charles Easley; special children, Cornelius (Neal) Shaw, Mike Brown, Eric Wright, Kirk Scott, Jason Powell, Jermaine Jackson, Tyese Guy, Jhamisa White and Pamela Johnson. She also leaves to cherish her memories a host of cousins by the dozens and friends who will miss her dearly.
A viewing will be held on Friday, December 29, 2023 at Royal Funeral Home Chapel from 5-7 pm.
Funeral services will be held on Saturday, December 30, 2023 @ 1:00 pm at New Emory Chapel United Methodist Church, 311 N. Hickory Street, Jesup, Ga. 31546
Interment in Sunset Oaks Memorial Cemetery.
