Obituary for Gwendolyn "Gwen" Simmons (Pittman)
Gwendolyn D. Pittman-Simmons, 59, of Jesup, Ga. passed away on May 4, 2022 at St. Joseph’s Candler Hospital in Savannah, Ga. “Gwen”, as she was known by family and close friends, was born on February 15, 1963 in Screven, Ga. to the late, Leola Myles-Pittman and Eddie Lee Pittman, Sr. She was educated and graduated in the Wayne County Public School System and was employed with Wayne County Board of Education where she worked as a custodian at Arthur Williams School. She enjoyed spending time with her children and grandchildren in which she was very supportive of. She was a member of New Life Ministries in Jesup, Ga.
Gwen was preceded in death by her mother, Leola Myles-Pittman; her sisters, Debra and Linda Gail Pittman; her step mother, Hazel Pittman; her mother in-law, Betty Simmons and brother in-law, Keith Simmons.
She is survived by: her husband, Edward Collins Simmons, Jr., Moline, Illinois; her children, Jarmaal Simmons, Charity (Tywann) Pittman, Whitney (Russell) Hall, all of Jesup, Ga.; her grandchildren, Zuhria Wingard, Michah Simmons, Jamir Simmons, Nyrielle Simmons, Jaquayvion Simmons, Janariah Simmons and Peyton Hall; her great grandchild, Jakaden Simmons; her step grandchildren, Aaliyah Hall, Gabrielle Hall, Phillip Hall and Catherine Hall; her father, Eddie Lee Pittman, Sr., Jesup, Ga.; her sisters, Chylene Pittman (Eddie Lambert), Jesup, Ga. and Patricia Cross, Brunswick, Ga.; her brothers, Eddie Lee ( Shandora) Pittman, Jr. and Perry Lamar Pittman, both of Jesup, Ga.; her uncles, Jessie (Aretha) Myles and Walter (Alica) Myles; her special nephews, Cabritny McClinton, Richard (Chanda) Pittman, Sr., Eddie L. Pittman III; her god daughter, Kymara Bell; her father in- law, Edward Simmons, Sr., Rock Island, Illinois; her sisters in-law, Sherry Simmons , Moline, Illinois, Angie Simmons, Lubbock, Tx., Yolanda Duncan Sanders, Elgin, Illinois, Neidra Duncan, Rockford, Illinois; her brothers in-law, Michael Simmons, Rock Island, Illinois, Chris Simmons, Davenport , Iowa, Conrico Simmons, Moline, Illinois ; her close friends, Priscilla (Norris) Fuller, Jesup, Ga.; a host of nieces, nephews, cousins and other family members who will miss her dearly.
A walk thru viewing will be held on Friday, May 13, 2022 from 11 am until 2 pm at Royal Funeral Home Chapel , 247 W. Pine St., Jesup, Ga. 31545
Funeral services will be held on Saturday, May 14, 2022 @ 2:00 pm at New Life Ministries, 512 Walker Street, Jesup, Ga. 31546. Interment in Screven Cemetery.
