Obituary for Harry "Gator" Cummings Jr.

Deacon Harry Lee Cummings, Jr., son of the late, Mr. Harry Lee Cummings, Sr. and Ms. Mollie Sallens Cummings was born on November 28th, 1939, in Woodbine Camden County, Georgia. Deacon Harry Lee Cummings, Jr. affectionately known as GATOR, RAYFIELD, MY DADDY or PAPA to his grandchildren departed this earthly life on January 7th, 2024, in Kingsland, Georgia. He joined Gethsemane Missionary Baptist Church at an early age. He attended and graduated from Ralph J. Bunche public school system in Camden County, Georgia. After which, he served two years in the United States Army before being honorably discharged. He worked at Gilman Paper Company for more than 25 years and once it was purchased by Durango, Inc, he continued to work for them until his retirement in February of 2001. He was an avid NASCAR fan always cheering on AWESOME Bill Eliot from DAWSONVILLE. He loved him because he drove FORD vehicles. He loved fishing and golfing and was also a diehard DALLAS COWBOYS fan.

He married Ordained Minister Annie Louise Cosom on December 26th, 1961, who preceded him in death on March 7th, 2014. To this union 10 children were born. Three of their children also preceded him in death, Ms. Veronica M. Cummings, Mr. Darryl L. Cummings and Mr. Michael L. Cummings.

He leaves to mourn, one son, Harry L. Cummings, III, Hamden, CT; six daughters, Lisa Cummings, Kingsland, GA, Sonia Cummings, Woodbine, GA, Tracey Cummings, Bronx, NY, Tara Cummings, Aarika Cummings, (both of St. Marys, GA) and Andrea Cummings, Bronx NY. He also leaves one sister, Rena Mae Cummings, St. Marys, GA; six brothers, Floyd Cummings (Theresa), Shreveport, LA, Robert Cummings (Geneva), Woodbine, GA, Ernest (Doris) Cummings, Nelson (Hattie) Cummings, Curtis Cummings, all of Kingsland, GA, and Stephen Cummings, Raleigh, NC; four grandsons, Matthew, Anthony, Caleb and Devontey; seven granddaughters, Shereace, Amaya, Ariana, Kaidyn, Kamdyn, Karsyn and Georgia; a host of nephews and nieces, and a very dear friend, Ms. Janice Shepherd.

A viewing will be held on Friday, January 19, 2024, from 5-7 p.m. at Allison Memorial Chapel,10140 Colerain Road, St. Marys, Ga. 31558.

Funeral services will be held on Saturday, January 20, 2024 @ 11:00 a.m. at Young Zion Missionary Baptist Church, 4500 GA Hwy 40, St. Marys, Ga. 31558.

Interment in Woodbine Cemetery, Hwy 110, Woodbine, Ga. 31558.
