Henry Cornelius Green, a beloved husband, father and grandfather, was born on December 19, 1947, in Chester, South Carolina, to his parents, Mabel Magnolia Green and Henry Cornelius Green. He departed from this world on October 4, 2023, leaving behind a legacy of service, family, and adventure.

Henry's early years were rooted in Chester, South Carolina, where he graduated from Finley High School in 1965. Eager to pursue higher education, he graduated from South Carolina State University in 1969, marking the beginning of a life filled with purpose and dedication.

Henry answered the call of duty with unwavering pride, as he was drafted into the United States Army. His military journey spanned 24 years of service, culminating in his retirement with the distinguished rank of Master Sergeant. He was a part of the proud Underwood family tradition of military enlistment, exemplifying his commitment to his country.

In 1974, Henry married the love of his life, Helen Smith, from Charles City, Virginia. Their enduring union spanned 49 remarkable years, during which they were blessed with two sons, Brian and Joseph Green. Henry's legacy lives on through his sons and their loving wives, Michelle and Angelique Green, as well as his four cherished grandchildren: Kameron, Sophie Belle, BK Henry, and August Green.

Henry's life was an incredible journey filled with travel, family gatherings, service, and adventure. His military service and post-retirement travels took him to numerous countries across five continents, enriching his life with diverse experiences and cultures. Even after retiring from the military and federal government, Henry continued to serve his community with passion and dedication.

He was an active member of both his high school and college alumni organizations, nurturing his lifelong connections. Henry's faith was central to his life, as he was actively involved in the Calvary Baptist Church in Chester, South Carolina, and the First African Baptist Church in St. Mary's, Georgia.

Above all, the family remained at the heart of Henry's life. He cherished his roots in Chester and held dear the traditions and gatherings that brought the Underwood family together. One of his greatest joys was attending the annual Underwood Family Reunion, an event he never missed, where he shared laughter, stories, and love with his extended family.
