James Theron Baggs was born January 2, 1939 in Baxley, Georgia to the late, Arrelious and Mayebelle Canty-Baggs. "James", known by his friends and family as Theron, Sleep, and Sleepy, was educated at Walker School in Ludowici, Georgia. James worked on farms, in construction, as a shade tree mechanic, Local 401 Cement Finisher in Jacksonville, Fl., and for 15 years at Long County High School. He was a member of St. James Baptist Church in Ludowici, Georgia. James and his family moved to Jacksonville, Fl. where he became a member of Spirit of Fire Ministry, where he served under Bishop Maurice Williams as Deacon James Baggs. He enjoyed fishing, hunting, music, cell phone, snacks and spending time with his children and grandchildren. He will be remembered as quiet, kind, loving, easy going and willing to help anyone that he could. He had an impact on so many people lives.
James passed away on November 8, 2021 at home surrounded by his loved ones. He was preceded in death by both parents, Arrleious and Mayebelle Baggs; his daughter, Annette Jackson, his grandsons, Raymond Jackson and Alfonzo Williams; his three brothers, Herbert Lee, Henry and Alfonzo Baggs and his sister, Mary Francis Baggs-Bester.
Those left to cherish his memories: his loving wife, Carrie "Shirley" Baggs, Jacksonville, FL; his children, Greg (Deila) Martin and Dewayne (Sherry) Fuller, both of Jacksonville, FL; Arnold (Paula) Wright, Douglas, GA. and Jovaris Bronson, Jacksonville, FL.; his godchildren, Charles Epps (Sharon), Willie (Alabama) Mitchell; sister in-law, Kathy Frasier; his future daughter in-law and shining star, Donna Jenkins, Jacksonville, Fl.; his sisters, Doretha James, Liverpool, NY, Shirley Baggs-Davis, and Lauren Coley, both of Ludowici, Ga. (15) grandchildren, (12) great-grands and a host of other family members and friends that will truly miss him. James was a wonderful husband, a perfect father and a good provider.
A walk thru viewing will be held on Sunday, November 14, 2021 from 1:00 pm until 3:00 pm at Royal Funeral Home Chapel, 247 W. Pine Street, Jesup, Ga. 31545.
Graveside services will be held on Monday, November 15, 2021 @ 1:00 p.m at Oak Ridge Cemetery, Franklin Rd., Ludowici, Ga. 31316.
