James Lewis West, 76, of Alma, Ga., passed away on Saturday, November 07, 2020 surrounded by his loving family. He was born on June 17, 1944 to the late, Lewis and Georgia Mae Smith-West, in Wayne County, Ga. James was educated in the Northside High School System and retired from Rayonier where he worked in the finishing department for 31 1/2 years. He was a member of Smith Grove Baptist Church in Gardi, Ga., and enjoyed hunting, fishing and watching football on television. James was a kind and loving man that took good care of his family and would do anything to help anybody. His family seems to think that he missed his calling, that he should have been a comedian, with the sense of humor that he had.
James was preceded in death by both parents, Lewis and Georgia Mae West; his sisters, Hattie J. Smith, Doretha McCloud, Mary Benton, Elsie Frazier, Lois Wilson; a brother, Albert "Pete" West and a granddaughter, Brianna Jenkins.
Those left to cherish his memories: a loving wife of 55 years, Lena Mae McGill-West, Alma, Ga.; his only beloved daughter, Pamela (Shawn) Minnifield, Morrow, Ga.; his granddaughter that he adopted as his own, Aliea Wilson, Jesup, Ga.; his loving sons, James (Sonya) West, Jr. Morrow, Ga., David (Shawanna) West, Edward (Bridgette) West, Jesup, Ga., Michael West, Jesup, Ga. and Vernon (Monterria) Guyton, Douglas, Ga.; his sisters, Kensie (Willie) Truitt, Jesup, Ga. and Alfreda West, Jesup, Ga.; his mother in-law, Lillie Mae McGill, Gardi, Ga; brothers in-law, Jimmy (Patricia) McGill, Jesup, Ga., Terry (Lawanda) McGill, Brunswick, Ga. and Elmer L. McGill. Jesup, Ga.; sister in-law, Gail (Jason) Bennett, Jesup, Ga.; close friends, Sammy (Patricia) Tippins, Jesup, Ga.; (19) grandchildren, (13) great grandchildren and a host of nieces, nephews, cousins and friends that will surely miss him.
A walk thru viewing will be held on Friday, November 13, 2020 at Royal Funeral Home Chapel, 247 W. Pine Street, Jesup, Ga., from 4p.m. until 6 pm.
A graveside service will be held on Saturday, November 14, 2020 @ 11:00 a.m., at Pendarvis Cemetery in Gardi, Ga.
