Obituary for James Wilkerson Jr.
James B. Wilkerson, Jr., 69, of Jesup, Ga. passed away on Thursday, September 24, 2020, at Wayne Memorial Hospital. He was born on May 10, 1951, to the late, James B. Wilkerson, Sr. and Bernice Gaffney-Wilkerson, in Wayne County, Ga. James was educated in the Wayne County Training School where he played football and graduated in the Class of 1969. He was a member of St. John First Born Holiness Church under the leadership of Elder Michael Swint, and his employable years were spent employed with 26 years of service with Seaboard Coastline and CSX Railroad in Waycross, Ga.
James hobbies included repairing and restoring cars, his 1955 Chevy, to be specific, that he loved dearly, riding motorcycles, fishing, attending church and spending time with his family and friends. He was preceded in death by both parents, James B. Wilkerson, Sr. and Bernice Gaffney Wilkerson; his grandparents, Leola Johnson, Rachel N. Wilkerson, Troy Robinson, Sr.; his brothers, Rufus L. Wilkerson, Robert L. Wilkerson, Richard Williams and Calvin Wilkerson; his nephew, Richard Copeland III; his uncles, M.J. Wilkerson, David Blackmon, Leroy Robinson, Troy Robinson, Jr. and Dewayne Robinson; an aunt, Betty Jean (Eddie B.) Evans; his great aunt that he was very close to, Eliza (Herman) Hatcher, Sr., Ethel (Gordon) Howard, and Annie Bacon; his great uncle, Marcus Gaffney; his step daughter, Carla Riley.
He leaves to mourn: his loving wife of 42 years, Della Ann Sanders Wilkerson, Jesup, Ga.; his son, Quavarius Hudson and a grandson that he raised as a son, Reggie Sanders, Jesup, Ga.; his daughters, Eloise Jawanna Kelly, Savannah, Ga. and Katreace (Daryl) Harris, Jesup, Ga.; his sisters, Shirley (Calvin) Singleton, St. Petersburg, Fl., Eloise W. Johnson, Jesup, Ga., Sandra (Francisco) Gomez, Jesup, Ga., Carolyn (Berdell) Cooper, Jesup, Ga., Elizabeth (Issac) Smith, Jesup, Ga., Maggie Hillman, Jesup, Ga., and Pearl Reddish, Bronx, NY; his brothers, J.B. (Mattie Lee) Wilkerson, Jr., Dennis Wilkerson, Houston, Tx., Raymond and Riley Williams, Tifton, Ga.; his uncle, Eugene Robinson; Jesup, Ga.; his aunts, Lily Robinson, Wilma Jean Robinson; a great aunt, Hilda Gaffney, Screven, Ga.; his sisters in-law, Evang. Samella (George) Walker and Quenois Evans, both of Laurel, Ms.; his brothers in-law, Lawrence Dwayne Evans and Curtis (Geraldine) Sanders, both of Jesup, Ga.; his sons in-law, Sammy Riley, Jesup, Ga. and Chester Coleman, Hattisburg, Ms., his grandchildren, Shequita, Jarronda, Phyllisa, Chester, Jr., Jasha, Jashay, Jalia, Carrie Ann, Daryl Eugene and Eugene; and a host of great grandchildren, nieces, nephews, cousins and friends that will miss him dearly.
A viewing will be held on Friday, October 2, 2020 at Royal Funeral Home Chapel from 12 noon until 2p.m.
A graveside will be held on Saturday, October 3, 2020 @ 11:00 a.m. at Jesup City Cemetery, Jesup, Ga.
