Obituary for John "Dancing Bear" McCormick Jr.

John Anderson McCormick, Jr., known as the "Dancing Bear" was born on September 23, 1943 in Blackshear, Georgia to the late John Anderson McCormick, Sr., and the late Mary M. Brown McCormick. John was reared in Folkston. He had a love for music and dance. He was also fascinated with trains and was an avid train watcher. He was a compassionate man and was loved almost by everyone who knew him, including children. John departed this life on February 16, 2022 under the care of Hospice Golden Isles at Folkston Park Nursing Home.

He was preceded in death by his parents and six siblings. John was also blessed to have an extended family who preceded him in death, Foster Father, Rock Sell Sims.

Those left to cherish his memories are three sisters: Lucille McCormick, Atlanta, Georgia, Leona M. McCloud (Jimmy), Folkston, Georgia and Lindy Latson (Forest), Jesup, Georgia; one brother, Alfred J. McCormick, Folkston, Georgia, and a host of nephews, one niece, cousins, and other relatives.

John's memories will also linger in the hearts of his Foster Mother, Essie M. Sims; Foster sisters: Deborah (Bruce)Young, Vanessa Williams, Idell (Mike) Smith, Vera (Darryl) Charity. Foster brothers: Terris Sims and Rev. Rock Ervin (Norma) Sims. Very close friends: Arletha Jackson, Elnora Johnson Satterwhite, Elijah Abdullah, the Abdullah Family, and many sorrowing friends.

A graveside service will be held on Saturday, February 26, 2022 @ 11 a.m. at Johanna Bailey Memorial Gardens Cemetery, Mt. Carmel Cemetery Rd., Folkston, Ga.
