Obituary for Johnnie Smith

Johnnie Lee Smith, 92, passed away on Thursday, November 19, 2020. He was born on September 9, 1928 to the late, Vellie Watts-Johnson in Alabama. He received his primary education and spent the early part of his life upstate, where he worked at the newspaper in Long Island, New York. He was later united in holy matrimony to Olivia Roberson-Smith, who preceded him in death. Johnnie was a former member of Bennett Union Missionary Baptist Church, but was presently a member of St. John First Born Holiness Church. Apart from working, Johnnie enjoyed fishing and baseball, until his health would no longer allow those pleasures.

He leaves to mourn his passing: his nieces and nephews, Essie M. Nelson, Jesup, Ga., Viola Petterson, Nahunta, Ga., Dorothy and Bill Brockington, Waynesville, Ga., Linnie Murphy, Nahunta, Ga., Rev. Charles and Darlene Whitefield, Waynesville, Ga., Willene Fullmore, Jesup, Ga., Clove and Christine Cooper, Brunswick, Ga., Jerry Cooper, Nahunta, Ga., Sandy and Angela Cooper, Nahunta, Ga., Betty Joe Page, Jesup, Ga., Louise Lowe, Milwaukee, Wis., Hattie, Willie and Ernest Ray, Salem, Al., Cellie Allen, West Palm Beach, Fl.; a sister in-law, Kate Cooper, Waycross, Ga.; and a host of other relatives and friends.

A walk thru viewing will be held on Monday, November 23, 2020 from 12 noon until 4 p.m., at Royal Funeral Home Chapel, 247 W. Pine Street, Jesup, Ga.

Graveside services will be held on Tuesday, November 24, 2020 @ 11:00 a.m., at Jesup City Cemetery, Jesup, Ga.
