Obituary for Joseph Rawls
Joseph Gilbert Rawls, 68, of Jesup, Ga. passed away on Friday, January 21, 2022 at Wayne Memorial Hospital following a lengthy illness. He was born on March 13, 1953 to the late, Roosevelt and Rita Johnson-Rawls in Screven, Ga. Joseph was educated in the Wayne County public school system, from which he graduated and later enlisted in the U.S. Army.
Joseph was preceded in death by both parents, Roosevelt and Rita Rawls; three sisters, Carolyn Jordan, Rethea Mae Collins and Gail Jackson; three brothers, Harmon Thomas Rawls (HT), George Rawls and William “Ray” Rawls; two grandsons, Rico Rawls, Jr. and Armond Fuller.
Those left to cherish his memories: his wife, Shirley Fuller-Rawls, Jesup, Ga.; his children, Rico (Cartina) Rawls, Sr., Good Hope, IL, Genell Fuller, Jesup, Ga., Charlene (Tony) Bryant, Macon, Ga., Terrence Moore, Screven, Ga. and Cheryl Harris, Ludowici, Ga.; his siblings, Betty J. McCall, Ewing Township, NJ, Selda M. Rawls, New York, NY, Janice Parker, Columbus, Ga., Mable Mobley, Jacksonville, Fl., Theodore R. Rawls, New York, NY, Leonard Rawls, Waycross, Ga. and Noah ( Margaret) Rawls, Jesup, Ga.; his aunt, Geanette Tattnall, Colorado Springs, CO.; (20) grandchildren; (4) great grandchildren and a host of nieces, nephews, cousins and friends.
A walk thru viewing will be held on Friday, January 28, 2022 at Royal Funeral Home Chapel from 12 noon until 6 pm.
An intimate memorial service will be held on Saturday, January 29, 2022 at Royal Funeral Home Chapel @ 2:00 pm for the immediate family to witness the military detail and flag presentation.
Because of the recent increase in numbers for Covid-19, we ask that everyone planning to attend services to wear your masks.
Interment will take place on Monday, January 31, 2022 at Georgia Veterans Memorial Cemetery, Glennville. Ga. @ 10:00 a.m. Because of Covid-19, the interment will be private (no one will be able to attend the burial site until after 4 p.m.)
