Obituary for Kerry Norwood

Kerry Darnell Norwood, 63, of Jesup, Ga., passed away on January 27, 2020, following a brief illness. He was born on July 2, 1956, to the late, Waymon Douglas Norwood, Sr. and Maxine Murphy-Norwood, in Wayne County, Ga. "Duke", as he was known by many of his classmates, others knew him as Darnell, was educated in the public school system of Wayne County and graduated in the Class of 1974, and furthered his education in Engineering at Atlanta Technical College. Kerry was an employee of Rayonier where he had worked in the Powerhouse (Maintenance) for 30 years with the anticipation of retiring soon. His hobbies included all sports, he was an avid fan of the University of Georgia Atlanta Falcons and Los Angeles Lakers. He thoroughly enjoyed sports. Kerry was baptized, as a youth, at Mt. Mariah AME Church and attended since his childhood, and throughout his adult life.

He was preceded in death by both parents, Waymon and Maxine Norwood, Sr. and a son, Andrew Norwood.

He leaves to cherish his memory: a loving wife of 40 years, Louella Norwood, Jesup, Ga.; six children, Abram Norwood, Phoenix, Az., Diana Norwood, Jesup, Ga., Justin Norwood, Los Angeles, Ca., Crystal Norwood, Atlanta, Ga., Tanesha Norwood, Jesup, Ga., and Iman Norwood of Kaiserslautern, Germany; four grandchildren, Jordan Bryant, Wynter Daniel, Harper Bailey and Mariah Bailey; his siblings, Douglas (Jessie) Norwood, Jr., Decatur, Ga., Anthony (Jessie) Norwood, Locust Grove, Ga., Sandra Norwood Marshall, Tory Felder and James Norwood, all of Lithonia, Ga., Charlene Norwood, Onzelle (John) Way and Gregory (Charlotte) Norwood, all of Jesup, Ga.; a god child, LaQuashia Boyce; and a host of nieces, nephews, cousins and friends.
