Obituary for Larry "Wayne" Baggs

Larry DeWayne Baggs, 67, of Ludowici, Ga. passed away on March 9, 2021 at home, surrounded by his loving family. He was born on July 18, 1953 to the late, Bennie and Otha Lee Jones-Baggs in Glennville, Ga. “Wayne” as he was known by his family and a lot of his close friends, was educated in the public schools system of Long County where he was a graduate in the Class of 1971. He was an avid sports fan, playing basketball during his time in grade school. Other than playing basketball, Wayne was the coach of the Boys Traveling Basketball Team, the Girls Middle School Basketball Team and AAU Basketball as well as the Recreation Basketball Teams.

As for his employment history, Wayne retired after 43 years of faithful service at Rayonier where he worked as a Lab Technician. He was a faithful member of St. James Missionary Baptist Church where he served on the usher board. Other than sports, Wayne enjoyed fishing in his free time. He will forever be remembered for the quiet and loving person that he was.

Wayne was preceded in death by both parents, Bennie and Otha Lee Baggs and a sister, Lucille Baggs-Miller.

Those left to cherish his memories: his wife, Zettie Anderson-Baggs, Ludowici, Ga.; his children, Lucresha and Loretta Baggs, both of Jacksonville, Fl. and Lazaruss Baggs; his step children, Jerome Spaulding, Tommy and Keith Anderson, all of Ludowici, Ga., Rosby (Carla) Anderson, Stewart, Fl. and Larvonrick Williams of Jesup, Ga.; five grandchildren, Terry, Leah, Lynnesha, Mariah and Gabriella Baggs; one great grandchild, Skai Baggs; four sisters, Florestine (Patrick) Mark, Queens, NY, Lula (Nathaniel) Townes, Smiths Station, Alabama, Melissa Baggs, Ludowici, Ga. And Melinda Baggs, Hinesville, Ga.; his nieces and nephews, Charles Morreale, Christofer Baggs, Christina Coney, all of Hinesville, Ga., Daniel Mark, Queens, NY, Nathaniel Townes and Carla Townes, both of Smiths Station, Alabama., Sherese McNair, Pheonix, Alabama and Renee Coney, Jacksonville, Fl.; close friends, Felton Baker, Tareyan Green, Richard Perry and Thomas Baggs, as well as, other family members and friends that will surely miss him.


A walk thru viewing will be held on Friday, March 19, 2021 at Royal Funeral Home Chapel, 247 West Pine, Jesup, Ga, from 12 noon until 2 p.m.

Funeral services will be held at the Long County Gymnasium on Saturday, March 20, 2021 @ 2:00 p.m. Burial in Oak Ridge Cemetery immediately following services.

Those in attendance are expected to wear their PPE equipment (masks) and maintain a safe 6ft distant.
