Leila Arleta Thomas was born on September 10, 1972, to
the late, Julia Pearl Turnage-Thomas and Denzil Thomas, Sr.,
in Jesup, Ga. Leila came to saving faith in Jesus Christ at
an early age and joined Bennett Union Missionary Baptist
Church. She received her education in the public school
system of Wayne County and graduated from Wayne
County High School, in the Class of 1991. Leila worked at
the Wayne County Recreation Department as a scorekeeper
and at the ticket booth, before she went off to college and
after she returned home. She attended Paine College in
Augusta, and later transferred to Brunswick Junior College.
After college, Leila performed odd jobs, such as, car detailing
and domestic details, both inside and outside. She was an
avid sports fan and loved watching professional and college
sports on television. She will forever be remembered for her love
of poetry and her desire to have it collaborated into musical
lyrics. Leila passed away unexpectedly on Saturday, January
6, 2018, at her residence.
She was preceded in death by her loving mother,
Julia P. Turnage-Thomas and two brothers,
Douglas Lynn Thomas and Paul Anthony Thomas.
She leaves to mourn her passing: her father, Denzil (Lauria)
Thomas, Sr.; her brothers, Kevin (Melissa) Thomas, Denzil
(Linda) Thomas,Jr., David (Melissa) Thomas, Willie (Anita)
Thomas, III, Dexter (Shanda) Thomas; her sisters, Knarvie
(John) Steed, Julia Allen, Angela (Booker) Wilson, Robin
(Bernard) Kirkland and a host of aunts, uncles, nieces,
nephews, cousins and friends.
