Obituary for Lorene Wright (Wilson)

Lorene Wilson Wright, 85, of Gardi, Ga. passed away on May 1, 2022 at Wayne Memorial Hospital following a lengthy illness. She was born on May 22, 1936 to the late, John Wilson and Martha Smith-Wilson in Waycross, Ga. Lorene worked as a Certified Nursing Assistant at Altamaha Nursing Facility for many years, as well as the local Press Sentinel Newspaper. Aside from those occupations, her most noted was that of being a Mother. Lorene has spent many years rearing her children, grandchildren, nieces, nephews and countless others. She was a loving, nurturing, God fearing sweet lady that was there for anyone in need of her assistance and thought it to be the only and right thing to do. Lorene was a member of Smith Grove Baptist Church where she served as the President of the Usher Board. Whatever task Lorene took on, she did it to the best of her ability. Aside from serving on the Usher Board, Lorene was known for her ability to entertain her church family with meaningful poetry. She will forever be remembered for that role In her church. Christ was first in her life, then family, but anyone that knew her, knew how she felt about fishing and gardening. She loved it……

Lorene was preceded in death by both parents, John and Martha Wilson; her husband, David Wright, Sr.; two sons, Allen and J. W. Boone; two sisters, Johnnie Mae Wilson and Leola Rawls; her children that she raised, Chester, Larry, Jerry, Mildred and Ed Overstreet.

She is survived by her children, Sharon Boone, Larry (Teresa) Wright, Lesia (Timothy) Darden, Celeste Henry, Renay (Hugh) Grant, Pamela Wright, David Wright, Jr. and Clinton Wright; a very close nephew, James Earl “Badman” (Betty) West; her daughters in- law, Sophia and Carolyn Boone; her godchildren that she raised as her own, Louann (Charles) Madray, Eddie, Vanessa and Mickey Overstreet; and a host of grandchildren, great grandchildren, nieces, nephews, cousins and friends who will miss her dearly.

A walk thru viewing will be held on Friday , May 6, 2022 from 5-7 pm at Royal Funeral Home Chapel.

Funeral services will be held on Saturday, May 7, 2022 @ 11 a.m., at her home church, Smith Grove Baptist Church, 450 Martin Luther King Dr., Jesup, Ga.

Interment in Pendarvis Cemetery, Gardi, Ga.
