Obituary for Lula Mitchell (Way)

Deaconess Lula Way Mitchell, 83, of Woodbine, Ga. passed away unexpectedly on Tuesday, September 05, 2023. She was born on August 25, 1940 in Camden County to the late, R.D. and Burley Atwater Way. Lula was a member of Evergreen Missionary Baptist Church under the leadership of Dr. Leon Washington where she served as a Deaconess. She received her primary education at Ralph Bunch and worked for the Camden County Board of Education as a dietician but spent much of her later years as a homemaker, involving herself in sewing, baking, upholstery and gardening. She loved spending as much time as possible with her family.

Lula was preceded in death by both parents, R.D. and Burley Way; her husband of (57) years, Lonnie Bryant Mitchell; her son, Gary Jerome Mitchell, her sister, Verna Haywood (Troy) and her brothers, Claude (Barbara), Napoleon (Mabel) and Coley (Lula) Way.

She leaves to cherish her memory: her son, Mark Allen Mitchell (Yasmeen); her grandchildren; Judah, Joshua, Anna and Lydia Mitchell; her sisters, Joyce Harvey (Sylvester), Agnes Abdullah and Lillie B. Lanier; her goddaughters, Missy Joseph and Connie Foster; her godson, Vaughn Fields; her sisters in-law, Hattie L. Wilson (Billy), Fostina Mitchell (Clarence) and Joyce Mitchell (Claude); her close friends, Barbara Weston, Ruby Sibley and Ed and Rose Andrews, as well as a host of nieces, nephews, cousins and friends that will miss her dearly.

There will not be a wake/visitation on Friday. The public will be able to view the remains from 12 noon until the hour of 2 pm. on Saturday, September 09, 2023 at Evergreen Missionary Baptist Church.

Funeral services will be held on Saturday, September 09, 2023 at 2:00 pm at Evergreen Missionary Baptist Church, 1365 Kinlaw Road, Woodbine, Ga. 31569. Interment will be in Kinlaw Cemetery, Old Still Road, Woodbine, Ga. 31569.

At the family's request, services will NOT be live streamed.
