Obituary for Marilyn Ricks (Williams)

Marilyn Denice Ricks was born in Jesup, GA on February 23, 1955 to Lelon Franklin Fraiser, Sr. and the late Mary Jane Williams. She was called home to eternal rest on Thursday, February 3, 2022, at home surrounded by family. Marilyn grew up in Jesup, GA. She attended and graduated from Wayne County High School in 972.

Marilyn entered into the workforce in 1977 at Wayne Service Center, where she worked as an instructor for mental and behavioral adult clients. She was also a Special Olympics volunteer coordinator for basketball, softball, volleyball, track, field, and swimming. Under her leadership the team won many gold and silver medals in local and state tournament games. The volleyball team earned them a position to play in the 1987 International Special Olympics summer game. They won the gold medal for their division at Notre Dame, South Bend Indiana, where 4,700 athletes from more than 70 countries participated. This was one of the largest amateur sports events at that time. Marilyn had the opportunity to meet many celebrities to include, Oprah Winfrey, Barbara Mandrell, Don Johnson, Emmanuel Lewis, Spud Webb, Patrick Ewing, and Darrin Stephens just to name a few.

In 1990 Marilyn was blessed to pursue another career with the Federal Bureau of Prison, FCI Jesup. During her tenure she received several awards such as, employee of the month, Supervisor of the year, and awards for superior work and her leadership ability. For 22 years she campaigned and contributed to charities through the Combined Federal Campaign (CFC) which benefits the underprivileged. While working at FCI Jesup she prided herself for being known as Momma Ricks to the inmates she came to know and love. She helped shaped and encouraged them and helped them to live productive lives upon their release. She always told them if they put God first, He would open doors for them. She assisted several of them in an outreach program called Preventive Incarceration.

After retiring from the Bureau of Prison, FCI Jesup in 2012, she volunteered for over a year at Wayne Memorial Hospital.

In 2012 Marilyn became a substitute teacher in the Wayne County School system. She loved working with kids, she always encouraged them to pursue a higher education. She believed that if you would put God first and work hard the sky would be the limit.

Marilyn gave her life to Christ at an early age. Marilyn was a faithful member of Turning Point Worship Center under the Leadership of Pastor Justin Mitchell. She was an Elder and an altar worship leader. She loved her family and there was nothing she wouldn't do for them. Marilyn's greatest joy was giving, serving, and helping others.
