Obituary for Mary Ellis (Way)
Pastor Mary Louise Way-Ellis, 78, of Jesup, Ga. passed away on June 12, 2023 surrounded by her loving children. She was born on November 25, 1944 to the late, Amos Way Sr. and Janie Bell Carter- Way in Jesup, Ga. Mary was educated in the Wayne County Training School and was raised as a child in Smith Grove Baptist Church. She was the former wife of the late Leon Ellis, Sr. and to this union one baby girl was born, April Ellis. Her employable years were spent as a bus driver with the Wayne County Board of Education, and she was the former Pastor and Overseer of Greater Grace and Mercy Ministries in Jesup, Ga. Pastor Ellis enjoyed serving the Lord, fishing, shopping and helping others.
She was preceded in death by both parents, Amos and Janie Bell Way, Sr.; her husband, Leon Ellis, Sr.; her sons, Leon Ellis, Jr and Marvin Leon Ellis; her sister, Betty J. Way and two brothers, Quincy Way ad Ruffin Way.
Those left to cherish her memories: six daughters, April Ellis (biological daughter) and her two sons, Kalijah and Dezmon Hartzog, Barbara Ann Hill, Diane (Dwight) Wallace, Leola Hunter, Sharon (Pastor Gerald) Ellis and Kathy Sapp, all of Jesup, Ga.; three sons, Ray Charles Ellis, Jesup, Ga., Lamar (Charlene) Ellis, Atlanta, Ga. and Marvin (Beverly) Ellis, Hinesville, Ga.; one sister, Brenda Kendrick, Jesup, Ga.; one brother, John (Onzell) Way, Jesup, Ga.; one sister in law, Tessie Way, Los Angeles, CA; a god daughter, Vera Wallace, Jesup, Ga. and a god son, Pastor Milton "MJ" (Tina) Sease, Jesup, Ga.; (35) grandchildren and a host of nieces, nephews, cousins and friends who will miss her dearly.
A visitation will be held on Friday, June 16, 2023 at her church, Greater Grace and Mercy Ministries, 286 Walker Street Lane, Jesup, Ga. 31546 from 5-7 p.m.
Funeral services will be held on Saturday, June 17, 2023 @ 2:00 p.m. at Crossroads Church of God, 2949 Lanes Bridge Road, Jesup, Ga. 31545 Interment in Sunset Oaks Memorial Gardens.
