Obituary for Mary Mitchell (Thomas)

Mary Lee Thomas-Mitchell, 75, and resident of Jesup, Ga., passed away on Saturday, July 11, 2020, at her residence surrounded by her loving family. Mary was born on September 27, 1944, to the late, Homer and Elizabeth Thomas in Douglas, Ga. She was educated in the Wayne County Training School, and was employed and retired from Wayne Memorial Hospital, where she worked as a dark room technician for many years. Mary enjoyed reading, working crossword puzzles and spending time with her family. She was a member of St. James Holiness Church under the leadership of Bishop Arthur Green.

Mary was preceded in death by both parents, her husband, Milton Harvey Mitchell, two brothers, Arthur Brown and Donald Ray, and her favorite uncle, Babe Ruth Thomas.

She leaves to mourn her passing: her one and only devoted daughter, Conya Annjett Mitchell-Wallace, Jesup, Ga.; one brother, Burley Ray (Clydie), Tallahassee, Fl.; three grandchildren, Brittney Wallace-Atkins (Chris, Sr.), Mt. Vernon, Ga., Tamaya Cromartie, Jesup, Ga. and Demarcus Gaillard, Statesboro, Ga.; five great grandchildren, Coniya, Lyric, Sasha, Chris, Jr. and "Loyal"; a loving uncle, Harry Lee McCrae, Sr. (Ernestine), Screven, Ga.; two loving aunts, Mary Francis Thomas, Screven, Ga. and Viola Dixon of Trenton, NJ; three special sisters in-law, Havannah Green (Eld. Arthur), Jesup, Ga., Aretha Miles (Jessie), Jesup, Ga. and Dorothy Wright (Esters), Screven, Ga.; one brother in-law, Joe Mitchell, Atlanta, Ga.; special friends, Nancy White-Reddish, Folkston, Ga., Carole Holmes-Trumbull and Jerlean Hines, both of Jesup, Ga.; and a host of nieces, nephews, cousins and friends that will miss her dearly.

A viewing will be held on Thursday, July16, 2020, at Royal Funeral Home Chapel, 247 W. Pine Street, Jesup, Ga. 31545, from 12 Noon until 5 p.m.

A graveside service will be held on Friday, July 17, 2020 @ 10:00 a.m., at Screven Cemetery, Screven Cemetery Road, Screven, Ga.

Those planning to attend the viewing/services are asked to wear your proper PPE for everyone's protection and safety; due to the COVID-19 virus, masks are required, along with the 6 ft. social distancing regulations set by your local health dept. and the CDC.
