Obituary for Melvidean Frazier (Adkins)

Melvidean Adkins Frazier, 72, a native of Jesup, Ga. and resident of Hampton, Ga. (Henry County) passed away on March 07, 2023 in Spaulding County, Ga. She was born on December 09, 1950 to the late, Frankie Lee Adkins in Swainsboro, Ga. Melvidean graduated from Wayne County High School in Jesup, Ga., and later moved up to Rochester, New York, where she graduated from Manpower Technical School. She was employed with Farrell Corporation for (12) years where she was the company's top female player softball player, earning the title of "Most Valuable Player" and at Interior Products for (5) years in Brunswick and finally transitioned into her passion, opening her very own home daycare, providing loving care for children for (6) years. Because of her dedication to providing great help and service to the public, she then accepted a position at Safe Harbor Children Shelter where she served for (10) years. She received several awards, one being from Paula Dean for her guidance, inspiration and the safe environment that she provided for the children in her care. Melvidean went as far as to make a handmade patch quilt that was auctioned off as one of the highest items at the charity event. She always went above and beyond for the kids. She would personalize everything she did with her award-winning touches, from painting the rooms, making curtains, bedspreads, art for their walls, anything that would make the kids feel safe and at home. She was doing what she loved to do. Melvidean even extended her services to "Little Rookies" giving them (5) more years of Love for children. To give the slightest clue as to the extent of her passion for kids, she opened her home to at least (20) foster children in the span of (7) years providing love, guidance and emotional support. She was very creative, she loved painting, designing, sewing and crocheting. Melvidean was a "GOAT" in her own time. She was gifted with so many talents that were custom-made "just" for her, and she used them all to the best of her ability. She was truly a blessing to everyone that was fortunate enough to have met her.

Melvidean was preceded in death by her biological mother, Frankie L. Adkins Gardner, the parents that reared her, Reva and Frank Pasley, her in-laws that treated and loved her as their own, Ora Bell and Charlie Horton, her sisters, Sandra White, Unette Gardner, Sara Gardner and Kasel Wilkins; her niece, Ammal Gardner; her nephews, Marcus Smith and Maurice Johnson, and special acknowledgement of all family members that may have passed on before.

In 1969, Melvidean was joined in Holy Matrimony to Edward Horton and from that union three children were born that will forever cherish the memory of their mother, Terrain (James) Mcrae, Clifton (Balinda) Horton and Letrice (Roosevelt), and she inherited Laura (LaLa) as her baby sister, Tashonda (Marcus) Hudson, as a daughter and a god daughter, Latisha Gardner. As not to forget the apples of her eye, her beloved grandchildren, James J. Mcrae, Sr., Torron J. (Florencia) Mcrae, Sr., Abeni Horton, Clifton Horton, Jr., Josiah Austell, Damien Brown, Jr., Dave Brown, Marquell Hudson, Makhi Hudson, Shania, Shyanne, Shaolin and Tremaine; her great grandchildren, Torron Mcrae, Jr., Torrion Mcrae, Jaliah Mcrae, James J. Mcrae, Jr., Elliana Rose Mcrae, Solaya Milena Mcrae, Ryland and Kayden; her siblings, Dorothy Smith, Frankie L. Williams, Willie Aaron (Karen) Gardner, Patricia (Allen) Moody, Rickey (Diane) Pasley, Bertha (Winston) Bourne and Carolyn (Issac) Bryant; and a host of aunts, nieces, nephews, cousins and friends that will miss her dearly. Melvidean also leaves behind her extended family that has loved her and excepted her as their own for about 60 years, the Horton Family. Thank you for loving her as a sister and not an in-law, and the nieces and nephews for loving her unconditionally.
