Obituary for Oscar Morris Jr.
Mr. Oscar Morris, 85, of Kingsland, GA passed away on Wednesday, June 21, 2023 at Southeast Georgia Healthcare System in Camden County following a brief illness. He was born on April 9, 1938 to the late, Oscar Ervin Morris Sr. and Clara Morris Waye in Seals, GA (Unincorporated). Mr. Oscar was educated in the school system of Ralph J. Bunche. He was a faithful member of the Evergreen Missionary Baptist Church, where he served as an ordained Deacon; served on the Trustee Board; and Sunday school teacher until his health failed. He was an employee of Gilman Paper Mill for 38 years until retirement. He also served on the Board of Directors, at what was then, Gilman Credit Union/United First Credit Union for 23 years. Brother Morris was somewhat of a sports fanatic because he enjoyed watching his children and grandchildren play sports. He loved his church, almost as much as he loved the love of his life, Mrs. Daisy Morris.
He was preceded in death by both parents, Oscar Ervin Morris, Sr., and Clara Morris Waye; his sister, Artha Mae Gaddy; his brother in-law, Ernest Gaddy.
Those left to cherish his memories: The love of his life (66) years, Mrs. Daisy Bell Harris-Morris, Kingsland, GA; two daughters, Minister Lorraine Morris, Kingsland, GA and Lucreta Morris of Augusta, GA; four sons, Van Morris, Drexel (Felecia) Morris; Kevin (Kimberly) Morris; Oscar Mario (Lisa) Morris, Sr., all of Kingsland. One honorary son, Joe (April ) Peterson, Folkston, GA; one sister, Sylvia Townsend, nephew Ronald Townsend; Kingsland, GA; niece, Arnetta (George) Kelly, Arlington, Va.; nephew, Sean (Keysha) Gaddy, Staten Island, NY; god-sister, Barbara (Calvin) Weston, Woodbine, GA; sister in-law, Celestine (Joseph) Harris, Port Authur, Tx; brother in-law, Hardy Scott, Atlanta, Ga. special cousins, Valerie "Coke" Jones, Kingsland, GA; Sonya (Floyd) Walker, Spring Bluff, GA; close friend, Robert Jordan, St. Marys, GA; nine grandchildren and a host of great grandchildren and great-great grandchildren; god children, Loren Bailey, Eric Sullivan, Jr. and Allison Fischer; as well as a host of family members and friends who will miss him dearly.
A Memorial Service will be held on Saturday, June 24, 2023 @ 2:00 pm at Evergreen Missionary Baptist Church, 1365 Kinlaw Road, Woodbine, Ga. 31569
