Obituary for Phyllis "Tina" Sims (Gibbs)

“I have fought a good fight, I have finished my course, I have kept the faith: Henceforth there is laid up for me a crown of righteousness, which the Lord the righteous judge, shall give me at that day. 2 Timothy 4:7-8


On September 23, 1960, God blessed Nathaniel and Lou Anne Gibbs with a beautiful daughter, Phyllis Bettina Gibbs. She was the sixth of nine children. “Tina” as she was affectionately known by her family and close friends was educated in the Charlton County School System and was very talented. She found great joy in crocheting, micro me`, sewing, singing, and karaoke nights were some of her favorite times spent as date nights with her husband. She also enjoyed gardening, making jewelry and of course she was an awesome cook who loved to try new dishes.

On April 19, 2022, God saw that Tina was growing tired and called her home, he gave her rest. She passed peacefully into the arms of Jesus with her husband, sons and brother Dale (Kim) by her side. God has chosen a new beautiful rose to adorn his garden.

Tina was preceded in death by her parents, Nathaniel and Lou Anne Gibbs, her sister, Shirley Gibbs, her brother, Nathaniel Gibbs, Jr., and her father in-law, Robert Edwards.

She leaves to mourn: her loving and devoted husband of 30 years, Bernell Sims Jr., of Folkston, Georgia; four children, Kendall Brown, of Virginia, Nicholas (Maria) Brown, of Waycross, Georgia, Bernell Sims III, of Folkston, Georgia and Vincent Enrico Sims of Guam (US Airforce): five grandchildren, Nicholas Brown Jr., Noah Brown, Ava Brown, Olivia Brown, and Khi`Juanna Henderson; four brothers, Earl (Mary) Gibbs, of Folkston, Georgia, Al “Dale” (Kim) Gibbs, of Jacksonville Fl., Danny Gibbs of Folkston, Georgia, and Kurt Gibbs of Atlanta, Georgia; two sisters, Carolyn (Ronald) Mincey, and Angela Arrington, both of Atlanta, Georgia; five aunts, Gloria (Nick) Nicholson of Lacey, Washington, Betsie (Karl) Robinson, of Stafford, Virginia, Minnie (Henry) Benefield and Celia Maynor, all of Folkston, Georgia and Lavette Smith, Jacksonville, Fl.; two uncles, Wilbur Smith, Kingsland, Georgia and Richard (Wanda) Smith, Jacksonville, Fl.; her mother in-law, Julia Edwards of Folkston, Georgia; her father in-law, Bernell (Eve) Sims, Sr. of Folkston, Georgia; brothers in-law, Reggie Sims and Stanley (Lisa) Sims, both of Folkston, Georgia, Frederick (Eva) Sims, of Tampa, Florida, Calvin Edwards, Alvin Edwards, and Ervin Edwards, all of Folkston, Georgia, Tyron (Thalassa) Edwards, of Austin, Texas, Richard and Wilbur Edwards, both of Jacksonville, Fl.; sisters in-law, Amanda (Joe) High, of Columbus, Georgia, Norma Jean (Ervin) Sims of Blythe Wood, SC and Carolyn Edwards, Jacksonville, Fl.; special devoted friends, Jacqueline Davis, Tisha Hyman, Tess Mackey, April Peterson, and Patricia Lester; and a host of nieces, nephews, cousins and friends who will miss her dearly.

There will not be a wake/visitation. Viewing of remains will be one hour prior to services on Saturday.

Funeral services will be held on Saturday, April 30, 2022 @ 11:00 a.m. at St. Matthews Baptist Church, 116 6th Street, Folkston, Ga. 31537. Interment in Mt Carmel Cemetery, Folkston, Ga.
