Obituary for Richard "Fly" Houston

Today we come together for the late, but great, Richard Calvin Houston “Fly” who
was born on August 2, 1955 in Folkston, Ga. to the late, Lorene Houston and J.C. “Pat”
Neeley. Richard received his formal education in the public school system of Charlton
County. He was baptized at an early age and became a member of St. Matthew’s
Baptist Church. His mother passed away when he was a child. He was then raised by
his loving grandmother, Martha Houston.

Richard passed away unexpectedly on August 9, 2021, at southeast Georgia Health
System in Camden County. He was preceded in death by both parents J.C. “Pat”
Neeley and Lorene Houston; his grandmother, Martha Houston, a sister, Terra Ann
Houston-Jordan, three brothers: Duke Houston, Jimmy L. Houston and Joseph
Houston; and two brothers in-law, Corbett Eldell, Sr. and Leonard Melton.

Richard worked many different construction jobs, including Thycon, where he
was loved and admired by those he worked with. Richard had a great sense of humor
and a heart of gold. He enjoyed reggae music, landscaping, his cat Tiger and spending
time with family and friends. To his grand-kids, he was known as “daddy/papa” and the
love he had for both his wife and grandchildren, was truly unconditional. To many of
you he was known as “Fly”, but to us he was so much more. To us, he was a family man,
a father beyond comparison, the best husband, a wonderful provider, and an even
greater friend. It saddens us that our loved one was called home so unexpectedly, but
we know he will always be within us. Words can not describe how much we will truly
miss him.

Those left to mourn his passing include: his loving wife of 43 years, Mollie Houston of
Kingsland, GA, his daughter, Ashlee Houston and two granddaughters of St. Mary’s,
Alivia (Liv) Houston, and Imanii (Manii) Lavant; his daughter, Sherri (Larry) Davis,
grandson, Ezra Davis and granddaughter, Taylor (Tay) Davis of Claxton, GA; his
sons, Richard “Rick” Houston of Kinsgland, GA, Antony Eldell of Jacksonville, FL. and
