Ronald Carter, (69), was born March 4, 1953 in Jesup, Ga, to his parents Claude Fillmore and Ruthie Carter. He departed this life early on Thursday, June 30, 2022, at his home in Beach Park, Illinois. Ronald moved to Evanston, Illinois when, he was a young man. He married Sheila·Kirksey, they were blessed with three children, Rhonda, Darnell, and Marcus. He worked 16 years for Garrett theological seminary in Evanston, Illinois. He and Sheila eventually moved back to Jesup, Georgia where they Started a successful painting business (Carter's Professional Painting).
Ronald wore many hats. He was a husband, father, Grandpa (aka Papa), uncle, brother, cousin, friend and Entrepreneur who enjoyed spending time with his family, especially his seven grandchildren and you would see him with a shopping cart full of diapers at Walmart. He believed in hard work and taught his children the same. He was very competitive and you could always catch him with a lottery scratch off ticket in his hand. When he wasn't running the family painting business, he loved to bowl, play cards at family gatherings, bingo and gardening. He had a garden full of collard greens everyone loved to eat. Jesup locals would pay to have a bundle of them.
Ronnie also loved to take his grandchildren fishing. Those close to him will remember him most for his cooking skills. He was the official family cook. Those delicious home cooked meals made with love, and an occasional fish fry during the holidays were something you will never forget and truly miss.
Ronald was preceded in death by his parents, Claude Fillmore (father) and Ruthie Carter (mother); Siblings, Benjamin Fillmore, Theresa Ann (Fillmore) Walcott, Ada Viola Fillmore, John Carter, Leon Carter, Clyde Carter Jr., Lillian Nails, and Kensley Carter (granddaughter).
Ronald is survived by his wife Sheila and their three children, Rhonda (Johnny) Scott, Marcus Carter of Beach Park, IL and Darnell (Shunta) Carter of Atlanta, Ga; grandchildren, Cambria, Aaliyah, Jordan, Tyler, Kadyn, Mason and Shaun; God son, Tyrell; siblings, Felicia Fair, Shirley Jacob, Claude Fillmore Jr., Charlie Fillmore, Maurice Fillmore, of Glenville, Ga; Dellrea (Michael) Mccray, Dee Fillmore, of Ludowici, Ga, Florine Wilson, JaQuinta Lewis, of Brunswick, Ga., Betty (James) West, of Jesup, Ga., Janie Golden, of Hinesville, Ga., Barbara Ann Carter, of Des Plaines, IL, JaQuinta Lewis, of Brunswick, Ga; and a host of aunts, uncles, nephews, nieces, cousins, extended family and friends.
A viewing will be held on Friday, July 8, 2022 at Royal Funeral Home Chapel, 247 W. Pine Street, Jesup, Ga. 31545 from 1:00 p.m. until 3:00 p.m.
Graveside services will be held on Saturday, July 9, 2022 @ 10:00 a.m. at the Odum City Cemetery, 735 Tillman St., Odum, GA 31555.
