Obituary for Ronald "Big Daddy" Hedgeman Sr.

Mr. Ronald T. Hedgeman Sr, affectionately known as "Big Daddy" departed this life on Saturday, February 12th, 2022 at The Southeast Georgia Health System; Brunswick, GA Campus. He retired to Brunswick after working in Washington, DC to be closer to his sister, Dr. Regina (Larry) Johnson and enjoy the Golden Isles. His brother, Reginald and his wife, Edith subsequently joined him in Brunswick.

Ronald was born on November 4, 1953 in Washington, DC to the late, James E. and Viola P. Hedgeman. Much of his adult years and the entirety of his childhood years were spent in Washington, DC where he was born, raised and reared his family.

He was a Burner Mechanic prior to retiring to Brunswick where he worked for a few Oil Companies. He was a Journeyman who trained many Apprentices in the field. He was also an auto mechanic. While in Brunswick, he occasionally worshiped at First African Baptist Church. However, he was a member of Bethany Christian Church (Disciples of Christ) in Cleveland, OH.

He leaves to celebrate his memory his wife, Marie Patricia Hedgeman; his sons, Ronald T. Hedgeman, Jr. and Brandon R. Hedgeman; his stepdaughters, Bertha Clark and Erica Robinson; 17 grandchildren; 6 great grandchildren; one brother, Reginald (Edith) Hedgeman, Sr.; two sisters, Dr. Regina Hedgeman Johnson and Rev. Dr. Robin Hedgeman; one Uncle and Aunt, Earl and Loretta Hedgeman of Washington, DC; along with a host of friends and family.


A Memorial Service has been entrusted to Royal Funeral Home, but will be held at Chapman Funeral Chapel in Brunswick, GA on Friday, February 18th, 2022 at 3:00 pm.

His final resting place will be at Fort Lincoln Cemetery in Brentwood, MD.
