Obituary for Sammie Campbell

Sammie Lee Campbell, 84, of St. Marys, Ga. passed away on Friday, January 13, 2023 at Jacksonville Center for Rehabilitation and Healthcare following an extended illness. He was born on April 01, 1938 to the late, Armand Ford and Mother Janette Williams Campbell, but reared by Elder Raymond W. and Mother Janette Williams Campbell, Sr. in Camden County, Ga. Sammie received his education at Ralph Bunche High School. His employment history included that of being a Shoreman for many years, as well as on the Naval Base. Sammie enjoyed reading mysteries, sports, cooking and spending time with his family and friends. His favorite team were the Georgia Bulldogs. Sammie was a life long member of his family home church, Wheeler Street Church of God under the leadership of Pastor Verdell Griffin, Sr. and the present Pastor Verdell Griffin, Jr.

Sammie was preceded in death by his parents, Armand Ford, Elder Raymond W. and Mother Janette Williams Campbell Sr.; his siblings, Raymond W. Campbell, Jr., Lenora Mae Campbell, Calvin Lamar Campbell, Michael Everett Campbell, Joe Ann Campbell, Vernon Lee Campbell, Gertrude T. Spellman and Johnnie Taylor.

Survivors includes: his loving wife of (54) years, Grace Lindie Campbell, St. Marys, Ga.; his children, Felicia (Clint) Lattimore, Plant City, Fl., Sandra Lee Campbell, Houston, Tx. and Cecil (Paulette) Campbell, Bear, Delaware; his last surviving sister, Janet Campbell Daniels, Houston, Tx.; his loving mother in-law, at 106 years of age, “Moma Kitty” Lilith Lindie; his grandchildren, Articia Lattimore, Arthur Lattimore III, Steven Armstead III and Steffon Armstead; his great grandchildren, Kayla Lattimore, Onyx Lattimore, Quinton Lattimore and Alana Armstead; his sisters in-law, Annette McRae and Lilith Lindie, both of St. Mary’s, Ga.; Min. Reather Campbell, Tifton, Ga., Thelma Lindie, St. Marys, Ga. and Dorothy Campbell of Maryland; his brothers in-law, Edgar (Sharon) Lindie, Toronto, Canada, Cedric (Kim) Lindie, Raleigh, NC, Arnold (Joyce) Lindie, Brooklyn, NY and Oscar (Anita) Lindie, St. Marys, Ga.; his favorite cousin, Pastor Verdell Griffin, Sr.; his close friends, Charles (Marjorie) Jenkins, Eddie Lee Smith, Jr., Hiram (Bernadette) Floyd, Jr., Nathaniel (Ella) Wilson, Billy Wilson, Sonny Wilson, Yvonne Hannah, Faye Milton, Dennis Abraham and JoAnne Jackson, as well as a host of other nieces, nephews, cousins and friends that will miss him dearly.

*There will not be a wake/visitation on Friday.

There will be a viewing (1) hour prior to funeral services.

Funeral services will be held on Saturday, January 21, 2023 @ 11:00 am at Wheeler Street Church of God, 900 Wheeler Street, St. Marys, Ga. 31558
