Obituary for Sammy Riley

Sammy L. Riley, 65, a native of Clinch County, Ga. and resident of Jesup, Ga. passed away unexpectedly on July 9, 2023 at his residence. Sammy was born on May 25, 1958 to Sammy and Bernie Mae Riley in Homerville, Ga. He received his primary education in the public school system of Clinch County. Sammy worked various different jobs stemming from Marcus Construction, he worked as a Brick Mason and at the American Tank and Welding Plant. He loved fishing, fixing vehicles and playing cards with his family and friends.

Sammy was a member and served as an Ordained Deacon at Morris Chapel Baptist Church under the leadership of Rev. Dr. Darron Moore. He also served on the community usher board and assisted anywhere he was needed. Sammy always showed up wearing a smile and issuing peppermints and cough drops. He showed everyone love and will always be remembered as that kind spirited man. Sammy had no biological children of his own, but claimed and raised several.

He was preceded in death by both parents, Sammy and Bernie Mae Riley; his wife Carla Sanders Riley; his daughter, Jarronda Sanders; and his father in law, Charles Keaton.

Sammy leaves to cherish his memories: his children, Shanequa Wright, Barry Wright, Reggie Sanders, Shequita Sanders, Phyllisha Sanders, Chester Coleman, Jr.; his only sister, Minnie Ruth (Edward Lee) Brown; his brother, Kenny; his only living aunt, Rosena Tippins; his special nephew, William Tippins; his mother in law, Della Ann Wilkerson; a host of grandchildren; his close friend, Dorothy Floyd; a special companion, Alma Taylor, as well as other cousins and friends who will miss him dearly.

There will be a viewing held on Thursday, July 13, 2023 from 5-7 pm at Royal Funeral Home Chapel, 247 W. Pine Street, Jesup, Ga. 31545

A graveside service will be held on Friday, July 14, 2023 in Odum City Cemetery, 735 Tillman Street, Odum, Ga. 31555 @ 11:00 am, Pastor Darron Moore officiating. Repast will be held at Morris Chapel Baptist Church.
