Obituary for Shirley Brown (McCray)

Shirley Ruth Brown, 63, of Jesup, Ga. passed away on Friday, March 18, 2022 at Jesup Health and Rehab following a brief illness. “Ruth”, as she was affectionately known by family and friends was born on January 31, 1959 to the late Sammy Lee McCray and Lennie Mae Ellis-McCray in Jesup, Ga. She was educated in the public schools of Wayne County.

Ruth was a homemaker most of her life caring for family members and helping wherever she could. She was a member of Eternal Harvest Holiness Church under the leadership of Apostle Earl Thomas in Jesup, Ga. She was the former wife of the late, Sammy Brown. Ruth was also preceded in death by both parents, two sisters, Shirley Key and Ethel Lee Wallace and a brother in law, Richard Key.

She leaves to mourn her passing: one son, Joseph McCray, Jesup, Ga.; two sisters, Roberta McCray, Jesup, Ga. and Jackqueline (Joe) Sutton, Waycross, Ga.; five brothers, Kenneth (Sharon) McCray, Jesup, Ga., Sammy (Rhonda) McCray, Decatur, Ga., Keith McCray, Jesup, Ga., Jack (Barbara) McCray, Jesup, Ga., Eddie McCray, Jesup, Ga. and Willie Clark of Waycross, Ga.; one grandchild, Christina McCray, Jesup, Ga.; a close nephew, Terrell Harris, Hinesville, Ga.; a special friend, Phyllis McCray, Jesup, Ga.; and a host of aunts, uncles, nieces, nephews, cousins and friends who will miss her dearly.

A walk thru viewing will be held on Thursday, March 24, 2022 at Royal Funeral Home Chapel, 247 W. Pine St., Jesup, Ga. from 4-6 pm.

A graveside will be held on Friday, March 25, 2022 at 12 noon at Sunset Oaks Memorial Cemetery, 1580 Sunset Blvd., Jesup, Ga. 31545
