Obituary

Stanley Lawrence was born on February 28, 1961, to Coreatha Wright and Joe Nathan Lawrence in Jesup, Georgia. A graduate of Wayne County High School, he became a member of the Jesup Sports Hall Of Fame while on the basketball team from 1976-79. With Stan on the team, Wayne County never lost a home game during his Junior and Senior years. He went on to play as a Center for the University of Tennessee, Chattanooga from 1979-1983. At UTC, his defensive skills helped lead the school to their first NCAA Division I tournament.
Afterward, Stan joined the Atlanta Police Department in December 1990. Out of 29 years of police work, he was most proud of his time with the Atlanta Police Athletic League.

A devoted father, son, brother and relative, Stan leaves behind his mother, Coreatha Spencer, brother, Fred Lawrence, daughters, LaQuaylia Lawrence, Alexis Lawrence, and Tina Lindsey, a host of aunts, uncles, nieces, nephews, cousins, colleagues and loyal friends.

I met Stanley several years ago. He was always so nice and just a good guy. I saw him just a few years back when I ran the Peachtree Rd Race. I was like you always working .He laughed and gave me his signature bear hug and smile. He will be missed. He will now be patrolling the halls in Heaven. Rest in Peace.
