Obituary for Thomas Brown Sr.

On the morning of February 12, 2022 the Lord saw fit to call one of his faithful servants home.Thomas Alvin Brown Sr. was born August 30, 1943. He was the second child of Thorton and Alice B. Brown. He grew up in Folkston, GA, and was educated in the Charlton County school system. He Graduated from Bethune Cookman High School. He worked over 39 years on the railroad being one of the first African Americans to be promoted to and serve as a Supervising Section Foreman, retiring from CSX in 2003.

Mr. Brown was a family man and loved everyone around him. He loved spending time with family and friends. He also loved fishing, raising livestock, watching sports and caring for stray animals. He was a fun loving person. He had a jovial personality and a joke or a funny word for everyone he came in contact with. He served as a mentor to many on the railroad, in the church, and in the communities he was a part of. Thomas Brown was loved by many. On February 13, 1965, Thomas was united in marriage to Ella L. Drummond. Brother Brown was a dedicated member of New Hope United Methodist Church where he served as a Steward and in many other capacities.

Thomas was a member of Prince Hall Masons where he served as Past Worshipful Master of Mount Olive Lodge #228, Past District Worshipful Master, Member of Glynn Royal Arch #41, Member of Elmo V. Myers Commandery #27, and Past Commander in Chief Brunswick Consistory #271.

Thomas was preceded in death by his parents, his grandmother, Eula, and his beloved brother, William T. Brown Sr..

Left to cherish his memories are his wife of one day shy of 57 years, Ella Drummond Brown, his children, Debra Fugate, Sherrie Jones, Thomas A. Brown Jr. (Lanita), Crystal King (Cedric) and a devoted son-in-law Michael Fugate all of Brunswick, GA. Siblings: Alice Faye Holloway and Timothy Brown of Statesboro, GA., Wanda Gail Goodman of Columbus, GA. Grandchildren: Mark A. Williams, Miami, Fl, Kia Foster (Allen) Atlanta, GA, Horace Jones III, Andersen J. Brown, Cekayla King, Cedric Zachery King II, Brunswick, GA. Sisters-in-law, Catherine Lattany, Brunswick, GA and Essie McKenzie, Winter Haven, FL.; brother-in-law, Homer Sullivan, Woodbine, GA; three great grandchildren, a host of Cousins, nieces, nephews, sorrowing friends, neighbors, railroad buddies, Ronnie Stevens, Joe Stuckey and Rondy Jenkins, whom he affectionately called his adopted sons.

A walk thru viewing will be held on Friday, February 18, 2022 from 5-7 pm at New Hope United Methodist Church, 1323 Emanuel Church Road, Brunswick, Ga. 31523

A graveside service will be held on Saturday, February 19, 2022 @ 2:00 pm at Woodbine Cemetery, Hwy 110, Woodbine, Ga. 31569
