Obituary for Thomas "Dick" Reed Sr.

Deacon Thomas N. Reed, 79, of Folkston, Ga., passed away on Monday, January 18, 2021 at UF Health Shands in Jacksonville, Fl., following a lengthy illness. He was born on February 14, 1941 to the late, Eugene and Mary Adams-Reed in Hilliard, Fl. "Dick", as he was affectionately known by his family and close friends, was educated in Bethune School System. He was a 31 year retiree of Union Camp Pulp Mill where he worked as a lumber grader. Thomas was a dedicated member of Mt. New Home Missionary Baptist Church where he wore many hats, stemming from serving on the Deacon Board, President of the Youth Department, Finance Committee, Usher Board, Sunday School Chairman and he was also a member of the Male Chorus. He found great joy in serving the Lord, he was an avid baseball fan, with the Dodgers being a favorite for him and another favorite pass time for him was spending time with his family playing a friendly game of spades.

Thomas was preceded in death by both parents, Eugene and Mary Adams-Reed; his children, Jeffery "Curt" Spatcher and Tony Alderman; his brothers, Kenneth Reed, Sr., James Reed, Moses Reed; four sisters, Mattie King, Shirley Reed, Jessie Mae Spatcher and Marie Reed; five brothers, Moses, James, Marvin, Norris Reed and Kenneth Reed.

Survivors includes: his wife of 33 years, Earnestine Alderman-Reed, Folkston, Ga.; his daughters, Anna (Kenneth) Blue, Jacksonville, Fl., Ynonne Reed, Kingsland, Ga., Aleishia (Kerioth) Sumpter, Folkston, Ga., Tonia (Anthony) Manning, Orlando, Fl. and Terri Reed, Folkston, Ga.; his sons, Eugene (Shaquan) Reed, Valdosta, Ga., Thomas Reed, Jr. Jacksonville, Fl. and Gerald Roache, Tarboro, Ga.; his sisters, Joyce Green, Jacksonville, Fl., Doretha Devoe, St. Marys, Ga. and Kathryn (Charles) Vaughn, Jacksonville, Fl.; his brothers, Samuel (Shirley) Reed, Folkston, Ga., Frankie (Earline) Reed, Kings Ferry, Fl., Gregory Reed, Jacksonville, Fl. and Willie Reed, Austin, Tx.; (29) grandchildren; and a host of great grandchildren; great great grandchildren, nieces, nephews, sisters and brothers in-law and friends who will cherish his memory and miss him dearly.

A graveside will be held on Sunday, January 24, 2021 @ 1:00 p.m., at Mt. Carmel Cemetery, Folkston, Ga.
