Obituary for Velmarie "Velma" Hurt (Tomlin)

Velmarie Tomlin Hurt was born April 28, 1953 to the late, George Tomlin and Iona Douglas Tomlin in Jesup, Georgia. On Saturday, December 4, 2021, Velmarie gained her wings and was called to be with the Lord. Velma, as she was affectionately known, grew up in Jesup, Georgia and was educated in the Wayne County Training Center. Velma's work experience included working at a Daycare Center, which she operated from her home, Mr. Bryant Retail Store and KP Food Services. Velma was a faithful and dedicated member of Bennett Union Missionary Baptist Church where she served as a Deaconess, Usher, choir member, Pastor's Assistant, and assisted with the Youth Department. She found pleasure in sewing, cooking, singing, shopping, and spending time with family.

Velma was preceded in death by both parents and a brother, Alfonso Tomlin.

She leaves to cherish her memories a devoted husband of forty years, Ricky B. Hurt of Hinesville, Georgia; her children, Monifa Hurt, Kileen Texas, Taurus Hurt, Kileen, Texas and Jasmine Hurt, Statesboro, Georgia; one granddaughter, Jahzara Kirkland, Stateboro, Georgia; sister-in-law, Paulette Clemons, Eatonton, Georgia; brother-in-law, Darin Hurt, Eatonton, Georgia; two aunts, Etta Eaddy and Bertha Bacon, both of Blackshear, Georgia; one uncle, Michael Tomlin, Blackshear, Georgia; and a host of nieces, nephews, cousins and friends who will miss her dearly.

A walk thru viewing will be held on Friday, December 10, 2021, from 1:00 p.m. - 6:00 p.m., at Royal Funeral Home Chapel, 247 W. Pine St., Jesup, GA 31598.

Services will be held Saturday, December 11, 2021, @ 2:00 p.m., on the church grounds of Bennett Union Missionary Baptist Church, 401 W. Pine St., Jesup, GA 31545.

Everyone planning to attend services are asked to wear your mask to prevent the spread of Covid 19
