Mother Vera Dell Smith, 88, of Jesup, Ga., passed away on February 25, 2020, in her home, as a result of a house fire. She was born on April 25, 1931, to the late, Johnny and Annie Mae Brewton Hendrix in Bulloch County, Ga. Vera was educated in the Manassas, Ga. (Tattnall Co.) School system. She moved to Jesup, Ga., in 1962, where she worked as a cook with Jones Kitchen and Susie's Kitchen for several years. Vera was a faithful member of St. John First Born Holiness Church where she joined in 1974, and served in many capacities within the church, as a Sr. Choir member, Sr. Usher board member, Home Missions, and on the Kitchen Committee, until the Lord called her home.
Mother Vera loved to cook and spoiled her children and grandchildren with her delicious meals. She was always reaching out to the neighborhood showing everyone love. One of her favorite hobbies were attending to her beautiful flower garden. She was a a praying woman who always had a kind word for everyone.
Mother Vera was preceded in death by both parents, Johnny and Annie Mae Hendrix; her husband, Linton Smith; three daughters, Annie Lee Reddish, Teresa Smith and Peggy Smith; two sons, David Smith and Calvin Smith; a special son in law, Cornell Williams; three sisters, Janie Taylor, Louise Hendrix and Johnnie Mae Reddish.
She leaves to cherish her memory: her children, five daughters, Vera (Weldon) Hall, Dover, Delaware, Gloria Knight, Bobbie Jean Williams, Linda Faye Smith (Grady), Aliachia (Shannon) Smith, all of Jesup, Ga., two sons, James (Kelly) Smith, Jesup, Ga. and Larry (Delane) Smith, Hinesville, Ga.; a god daughter, Shiffonda Wiggins, Statesboro, Ga.; 21 grandchildren; 35 great grandchildren; 4 great great grandchildren; two sisters, Lottie Mae (Prophet Harry) Brown, Brunswick, Ga. and Janie Hendrix, Winter Haven, Fl.; one brother, H.B. (Ossie) Hendrix, Statesboro, Ga.; two sisters in law, Daisy Smith, Statesboro, Ga. and Ruthie Mae Bradley, Philadelphia, Pa.; and a host of nieces, nephews, cousins and friends.
